I had a 486 system from 1993 until 1997 or so. In early 1996 I managed to upgrade it from 33 to 66MHz, but 486 all the same. So yah the 486 defined my mid-90s gaming.

Exactly. I never had a 486, though. I jumped straight from a 386 to a Pentium 75Mhz. Hardly anyone bought the Pentium until well after it was released because it was so incredibly expensive. Most people did use 486es or below (like me with my 386, I couldn’t afford anything else) until well into the mid to late 1990s.
I believe I bought the Pentium 75Mhz in late 1995 or early 1996. Can’t remember for sure.
