Lord it sure is a long way from those days, isn’t it? Of course these doofuses were always wrong, as was obvious to any non-dumbass at the time. But that sure does seems like a different world now — one where it was racist to practice social distancing, masks didn’t work, and the experts knew what the fuck was going on.

This was predictable because zoonotic infections tend to emerge from the interface of humankind and nature, and we’ve been doing a lot more of that recently and in a very destructive manner. So when people are like, “HAR HAR, hippies are just using this to protect NATURE” (like that’s a bad thing), understand that yet again they are poor thinkers who utterly fail to begin to comprehend how ecosystems and other complexities function in the real world.

As I’ve said before, not a Black Swan event. Utterly predictable — just not the exact time.
