V(a)ultus Dei

One of my favorite sports photos is of a woman pole vaulter. It’s on one of my many storage locations somewhere, but alas I could not find it. It also would not be allowed by the new sharia broadcast guidelines because in it you can ascertain that the woman in question possesses a body.

All that preamble out of the way, I also really like this pole vault photo. It would also of course be banned under the new liberal sharia.

I don’t know who the vaulter is, but such a cool pic.

Eyed

I was talking with my partner about this and other related nonsense. She brought up the idea that de facto what this sort of effort does is to create and reinforce the notion that women’s bodies are inherently sexual, and that these attempts to police how women are perceived (even against their own wishes) does not help women, but instead only further harms them and makes into a pseudo-protected special — and lesser — class.

These policies are designed to treat women as “other.” For instance, you can shoot a man from camera angles that would not be permitted for a woman under the new guidelines. This creates a state of exception for a woman where she must be treated differently while doing the same activity.

You know what, we already tried “Separate but Equal.” That did not really work out. We should not be repeating that mistake and hoping for better results.
