“Treat everyone exactly identically” can have extremely terrible consequences if done unintelligently (which is how we do it).

According to Gen Z, this never happened, no one saw it, it didn’t occur and no one was there.

As more and more people are alive who are not old enough to recall 9/11, it’s interesting that many of them attempt to gaslight those of us who were around and already adults then about what really occurred, what we really saw, and what happened that day 25 years ago now. The poltroons in the post below are not the first, but merely an example I noticed on the eve the tragedy’s anniversary.

I suspect that desire to tell us what we really witnessed and felt comes from not wanting to comprehend the intensity of the horror of that day and the days that followed. The uncertainty. The fear. It’s something they cannot imagine and do not want to imagine. If they did, they might be forced to believe that something like that could happen to them, too.

Unlike what these Gen Z types think — the same ones who can barely read and for some reason believe we didn’t even have TVs in 2001 — 9/11 coverage was inescapable. That horrible day and for weeks after it, one could not go anywhere without seeing images and videos of 9/11. Every station (of which there were many at the time) played footage constantly. Every newspaper had endless articles. Even the fairly-primitive internet had videos and innumerable pieces.

Those of us who were there as witness to Americans suffering and dying that day know what we saw. Be glad you weren’t there. But we — we had no choice.
