AOC

I don’t care what Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s drawbacks might be. She’s the only legislator even attempting to put climate change in the forefront, thus she’s the only one doing anything that matters.

Nearly everything else we do is irrelevant now compared to that vast cataclysm ahead of us. Part of her impetus is that she’s young — which is why we need far more young people as leaders. The 70-year-olds don’t care about climate change because they won’t have to live through it. They’ll be dead.

But she’s 29. She will have to suffer through it so it just matters more to her.

Regardless, she’s the only one working on what really matters. Relatively, everything else is nearly irrelevant compared to climate change.

WMT cookies

I don’t understand how Walmart can sell three medium-size chocolate chip cookies for 98 cents that taste 80% as good as the cookies from Whole Foods that are $2.00 each. It’s almost three times as much cookie for half the price. It’s not like Whole Foods pays their people all that much more.

How is this possible? (Seriously, WMT’s “marketplace” chocolate chip cookies are pretty good.)

Terrible Advice

I just want to say unequivocally that the advice I see from feminists to “treat women just like you’d treat men” at work or to “treat women like you’d treat The Rock” is terrible, worthless advice. If I did that, if any man did that, we’d be fired, in jail, or likely both within the week.

I don’t think women have any real insight into how men relate to and treat each other. It’s much, much harsher than most men ever treat most women. Really, I think women have no idea here. Something I’d say (jokingly-ish) to a male colleague: “Hey, numbnuts, why’d you screw up that route? Where’d you learn IT, Trump University?”

Can you imagine saying that to a woman in the workplace? Unless I knew her very well indeed, I simply can’t. And if someone said that to me, if I screwed up the route, whatever.

And even if you use The Rock as an example, I’d joke around with him in ways (no, not about women, etc.) that no women would tolerate or would expect.

Perhaps men should be meeker or kinder or however you want to term it — but all I am saying is that right now admonishing men to treat women like they treat other men would leave most women running out of the workplace at a high rate of speed.

Hoot Suite

The only noise that doesn’t bother me is the owls that hoot and call near our house fairly frequently. They can hoot and carry on 24 hours a day. Go for it. No restrictions. Actually, most nature sounds don’t get on my nerves but owls are the best.

Human noise, though, can go right into the abyss. I’d really like people if it weren’t for…everything. Owls, though, are owlright with me.

SE ME

I am thinking about buying a spare iPhone SE since that appears it’ll be the last usable phone ever made. I am worried about mine breaking and not having a phone I am able to use. You know, a real phone with headphone jack and not the size of Montana.

Alone Own

To Enjoy Exercise More, Join a Team.

Don’t you mean, to enjoy exercise less? This is some extrovert shit right here. I enjoy exercising with my partner or by myself. I already spend too much time with people all day. Working out is when I can zone out, do my own thing, get stronger without competing with anyone or worrying about what they think.

When First

When I first started helping people with computer problems, when I was six or seven years old, I thought that in the future — maybe by the year 2000 — everyone would know enough about computers that I wouldn’t have to help anyone anymore.

Obviously, I was very wrong about that. I think what I missed is that even though most computer interactions are very simple, they are more complex than about 60% of the population can really handle. Thus, as long as there are computers there will be ridiculous tech support requests and such (“I can’t find my Start menu.” Well, it’s in the same place it was for the last 10,000 days you’ve been using Windows….)

In other words, tech support is never going away, unless we raise the IQ of a lot of people all at once. Damn.

Human Morality

“A further logical flaw arises in connection with the widely held conviction that humans are morally superior beings because they possess, while others lack, the capacities of a moral agent (free will, accountability, deliberation, judgment, practical reason). This view rests on a conceptual confusion. As far as moral standards are concerned, only beings that have the capacities of a moral agent can properly be judged to be either moral (morally good) or immoral (morally deficient). Moral standards are simply not applicable to beings that lack such capacities. Animals and plants cannot therefore be said to be morally inferior in merit to humans. Since the only beings that can have moral merits or be deficient in such merits are moral agents, it is conceptually incoherent to judge humans as superior to nonhumans on the ground that humans have moral capacities while nonhumans don’t.”
