I really hate this idea a lot of people have that if Ukraine surrenders, the bloodshed will end just like that.

If there's one thing we should have learned from Iraq, it's that the bloodshed doesn't stop when the invaded government folds. Quite the opposite, it often gets worse.

Exactly. Choices in Ukraine are all bad. Defeating Russia there is probably the best possible outcome. Hopefully not triggering escalation to NATO and\or nuclear war.
