The Litany

With the extensions I use — and not even including any ad blocking ones — my Waterfox is roughly twice as fast as the Quantum bullshit.

None of these extensions work or will ever work in the Firefox Quantum shitstain.

You know the drill: fuck Mozilla and fuck the Firefox developers!

The Chain

Well, we got the shittiest dystopia. We didn’t even get a potentially fun one — just a dismal, pedestrian, boring one. I mean, concentration camps. Always with the fucking concentration camps.

BTW, it’s not a conservative lie that this family detention policy was started by Obama (but not generally family separation). However, the concentration camps? All “cool-ass” Obama.

Mercado

Here Is Why You Shouldnโ€™t Expect A Bargain On A Pre-Owned Sedan.

There’s been a lot of confusion about why auto makers do not want to make sedans any longer. Sure, the demand has softened a little but the real reason is that SUVs and trucks have a much, much higher profit margin for automakers. Profit margin on a sedan is in the single-digit percentage range.

On the other hand, the profit margin on even a mid-tier SUV is around 20%. It’s even higher for the luxury SUVs people seem to want to buy now.

So, no, it’s not really lack of demand that is causing sedans to disappear — it’s lack of profit margin from the manufacturers’ point of view.

Which Witch Wish Watch

Was just thinking about The Witch again.

It’s one of the few movies I wish I’d never seen as it’s so damn good I wish I could watch it again with fresh eyes. It’s one of the few films with no false notes, no disjunctive tone changes, and all (cold) heart.

Even if you think you don’t like horror films (and it’s not really a horror film anyway), I urge you to watch this one. It’s just unbearably captivating.

WhyMac

Unfortunately, I agree with this. Mac hardware is stagnating. Since the wild success of the iPhone, Mac hardware has been left to languish, with stupid, customer-hostile design decisions and lack of interest in supporting pro/non-consumption users.

The problem is that Windows 10 is utterly unusable and Linux also has no clue how to support mixed DPI and high-DPI setups, as well as its numerous other nearly-intractable problems.

So I am stuck on MacOS, despite Apple having effectively abandoned Macs.

I just wish Windows weren’t so fucking terrible now. It was never great, but it was at least ok. But with lack of proper support for mixed DPI, etc., it’s a functionally useless OS that only Facebook droolers can get any real use from.

Strange, though, that Apple is leaving billions and billions of dollars on the table by not focusing on pro users who would pay a huge premium for real, upgradeable, high-end hardware in a more standard form factor.

Hell, if they offered me a (still locked in to Apple) monster 16-core computer in a standard ATX style case with upgradeable memory, CPU, etc., that could drive a few 5K and 4K monitors, I’d gladly shell out $5000+ for that any day of the week. So would loads of other people out there.

I’d guess by back of the envelope calculations that Apple is foregoing about $20 billion of revenue a quarter and $5 billion in profit.

That’s a whole lot of money to leave on the table. Must be nice when you can afford that.

The Future in Fact Was Not Cooler

Well, you can predict what is going to happen, and even though it’s obvious, people will hate you for it.

The case is just the latest in a string of murders and assaults by asylum seekers against women in Germany. In October 2016, Maria Ladenburger, a 19-year-old university student, was raped and killed by an Afghan asylum seeker. In December 2017, Mia Valentin, a 15-year-old girl, was stabbed to death in a drugstore by her ex-boyfriend, an Afghan migrant.

The cases have added fuel to the far rightโ€™s fiery anti-immigrant rhetoric. And it has created a dilemma for Germanyโ€™s liberal feminists: How can they fight against violence without supporting anti-immigrant resentments? Or to put it even more bluntly: Is it even possible to defend pluralism and womenโ€™s rights at the same time in Germany today?

No, it is not possible, in Germany or anywhere else. Those are incompatible goals when dealing with certain cultures.

When you let in a million or more young men who see women as nothing more than fuckable cattle, what do you think is going to happen? What do you expect, exactly? Actually, not even cattle, as cattle have value. To many of them, women do not.

If that is racist, then reality is racist, and so be it. (Though what it has to do with race isn’t clear to me; many white people are Muslim, and if white people commit such acts, they should be deported en masse back to wherever they came from, too.)

Festering Piles

Fucking hell. This explains why all of these products are becoming festering piles of utterly putrid garbage.

I Can Do It

NTFS tricks collection.

I use some of these to do things I shouldn’t be able to do in environments where people think they have restricted me.

If I have access to your network, you have not restricted me; you’ve merely given me a fun time and the chance to laugh at your puny security and do what I wish to do. (Note: I only do this with companies that want me to do some task for them, but then restrict me from actually doing it because of “IT policies,” so I use my skills for good. This sort of idiotic behavior is more common than you’d think.)

“Advice”

Bad writing advice.

writing advice: never italicize words to show emphasis! if youโ€™re writing well then the reader will know and you donโ€™t need them!

Here’s some more advice: just throw all your flat head screwdrivers away! If you’re a real repair person, you can make do with Phillips head only.

Unfortunately, writing advice like this is only for bad writers. Poor writers need formulaic advice; good writers use the appropriate tool, the appropriate method, the well-tempered word in its place, discarding rules and japing at them completely at times.

It Burns

I think Mozilla’s breaking of the Firefox extensions ecosystem is probably the single most clueless and destructive (for the company itself) corporate action I’ve seen in the last decade.

It’s kind of like when you’re young and your parents say, “If you do that damn fool thing, you will hurt yourself.”

And then you do that damn fool thing, and you in fact hurt yourself.

Utterly predictable, and yet you do it anyway. That’s exactly what Mozilla has done.

Tubes Going

Firefox is slowly but surely still going down the tubes.

From 13.26% share when dumbass fucking Quantum assholery was released:

To now, less than a year later, where it has 9.92% share:

In other words, roughly a 33% user loss since Quantum destroyed Firefox and users are, as they should, quantum tunneling right on out. That makes me very happy!

Couldn’t have happened to a worse bunch of dipshit semi-autistic assclowns.

Fuck Mozilla

Really, fuck Mozilla and fuck the Firefox developers. This tool no longer works, meaning you can no longer really change the font sizes in the browser itself — vital for the visually impaired and important for those with high-DPI and mixed-DPI screens. Check it out:

And now here’s what you can do with the tool, which is basically nothing:

Truly, fuck those idiots at Mozilla and fuck the Firefox developers. I hope they get stuck working in the basement of the worst software company in history in Paducah, Kentucky, and their bosses piss in their coffee cups every morning. Just fuck them. I wish they’d go out of business and soon. I am doing everything in my power to make that happen. Which isn’t much, but it’s my quest.

Fuck Mozilla and fuck the Firefox developers!

Board

Not the greatest photo (taken with my phone), but this is my new keyboard at work. I love it. It has generic blue key switches, so it’s pretty noisy. Fortunately, the woman who sits closest to me also has a keyboard as noisy as Clydesdales galloping over a covered bridge, so no one cares.

Keyboard edit

If you’ve never used a mechanical keyboard, your fingers will love you if you switch to one. I was very sad when they went out of favor (due to manufacturers attempting to save money) in the late 1990s and extremely happy when they became popular again around 2010 and 2011.

If you type a lot, a decent mechanical keyboard will make a shocking amount of difference to you. You’ll also type faster, experience less exhaustion from typing, and make fewer mistakes. For instance, if I actually sit up and type properly my mistake rate is 20-30% lower and I type about 25% faster.

Since decent mechanical keyboards can be had as cheaply as $30 these days (my white one in the photo with full RGB lighting was only $45), there is absolutely no reason not to get one if you type more than 20 minutes a day. It’s the cheapest way to make the most improvement to your computing experience.
