Most people in the Mariana Islands are US citizens, as that is a US commonwealth. But sure, climate change is fake and all that.

Wishes Departed
I wish the #metoo movement weren’t 80% about enforcing proper assortative mating and 20% about harassment. I really do wish that very much.
I’m not exactly surprised by how many of my fellow leftists are Flanders or Church Lady while masquerading as “kinky” or whatever else, but it’s still disappointing. And with how much the movement denies women’s agency and infantilizes women — why, just why?
Is this really what women want for themselves? I don’t understand.
Piped In
I took a look at those pipe bombs. They don’t look like the real deal to me. They aren’t wired up in a normal way and they look extremely amateurish. I doubt even one of them would actually explode.
It’s not all hard to build a pipe bomb (uh, don’t ask me how I know this) and those just appear to be someone’s idea of what a pipe bomb would look like if they were smart enough to build one…which they weren’t.
They’re Wile E. Coyote cartoon artifacts, not real bombs.
Almoand
Almond milk is some terrible foul shit that tastes like if a landfill mated with a lamprey. I know it’s replacing soy milk largely for misogynistic reasons and that makes me hate it all the more.
Not Quite Dead
My single-rep max on the deadlift is now 225 pounds — placed there on purpose this time.
I am gonna be feeling that tomorrow.
Imagine All the Protocols
apropos of nothing, i just imagined a network architecture in which traffic leaving the local broadcast domain would be initially multicasted, and then any of a set of routers sharing the broadcast domain could elect to route the traffic at which point it would switch to unicast
โ Graviscera (@gravislizard) October 25, 2018
You don’t have to imagine this. It already exists. There are several ways to do this. VRRP combined with policy-based routing can do the equivalent of this and far more (though some of the terminology in the tweet is not really relevant) and several dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF will do this as well when combined with VRRP or another resiliency method. VRRP supports up to 255 routers, by the way, so go crazy if you wanna with routing things every which way.
There is also multicast BGP to use, if you need to go really wide.
This is a long-solved problem in networking, in other words.
MMC
This is the whole problem with developers/designers and their fucking delusional quest to make everything mobile-only.
Ever since mobile (touch) became the prevalent consumer platform, there’s been a lot of focus on developing mobile solutions. This is fine. Except these mobile solutions are also pushed onto the desktop, where they utterly fail. Touch software does not work on the desktop. It just does not.
Moreover, there’s a bigger problem here. While most of the content is consumed on the mobile, most of the content is created on the desktop. It makes sense. The desktop is an infinitely superior platform for writing and image processing. The full keyboard + mouse combo and the multi-application usability beat all and any touch solution.
Exactly. Almost everything is created and will continue to be created on a real desktop machine at least for the next 20 years and likely far longer than that. Touch is horrifically bad and completely unusable on the desktop.
I know for some reason that it’s hard to convince asslown designers that a phone and a 30″ monitor aren’t the same thing, but they just aren’t. Never will be.

How are French people not (a) obese (b) continually drunk I seriously do not understand???
โ Emily Lakdawalla (@elakdawalla) October 24, 2018
When you consume higher-quality food, as the French do, you don’t need nearly as much of it to feel full. As for alcohol, if it’s imbibed with food as the French tend to means you don’t get drunk nearly as quickly, and it evens out its absorption.
Also, the French in general don’t have the guilt/shame complex with food, and thus the idea of “guilty pleasures” or “I’m being so bad” for eating a slice of cake does not exist. Thus, over-consumption and the binge/purge dichotomy is not so much an issue as there is no religious connotation to food.
The French also get far more exercise on average than Americans due to less extreme car dependence, and being overweight is seen as not honoring your body — thus there is less obesity and other eating disorders in addition to all the other factors that contribute to a better food culture. There is also no FA/fat celebration culture in France, and such a thing would be seen as utterly comically ridiculous.
There are other reasons, but those are the main ones culturally and environmentally.
Word Not Impressed
Just a reminder that WordPress is also about to become unusable.
It was inevitable, of course. Developers can’t resist this sort of thing because authoritarianism and thus user hostility is in the air culturally. I’ve tried this new interface, and it converts tasks that used to take two clicks into 10-20 clicks or makes them impossible altogether.
When this is not avoidable, I will most likely stop blogging as who has time for a terrible touch abomination? What use is an interface that takes longer to struggle with than it does to write the post in the first place?
Valdi
I’ve been using the Vivaldi browser more and more. It’s pretty impressive. Definitely going to throw some money their way.
Using it, even absent the extensions of Firefox of old, you can really see what a worthless shitstain current Firefox is.
