Containers and Kubernetes are 90% about raising the barriers of entry to IT (as all professions do) by making something so complex and abstract that only a small percentage of extant IT people can understand it all. Not personally complaining, because I can comprehend it all just fine.

This was inevitable and it really began when you saw helpdesk-level jobs requiring CS degrees which means they de facto required calculus. I don’t know about you but I never did even a little bit of calculus when I was working helpdesk. Or even arithmetic for that matter.

The other 10% is that containerization is the hot new tech that is going! To solve! All our problems! And of course it doesn’t and never will because though they do have their uses, I’ve been in IT a long time and no tech ever solves all of anyone’s problems and often, as containers do, they create loads more that then have to be solved with other tools.

Containers are really about the pseudo-professionalization of IT and wall-building, not about the tech itself. They are designed to keep IT white (or make it whiter), to corporatize it, and to make sure the non-college crowd has fewer paths of entry into the field. Sad to see but it was inevitable.

Ostra-ich

Agreed, but you think the nerd community is bad you should try a frat house or any jock gathering. Literally (going by the stats) 3x worse.

And why is ostracized in quotes there? We were ostracized. I certainly was. Heavily. It’s not fictional. It doesn’t give one a right to harass or assault, sure, but what a way to waste your point in useless minimization of other people’s pain.

She reminds me of the girls who would come up to me after I got my ass kicked in middle school and tell me I deserved it for being such a nerd. Yep, that happened. She is exactly that type.

Percent

Right now my body fat percentage is 14.3%. I am not trying to lower it at the moment. To gain more muscle, I should probably increase it. Eventually, though, I hope to get it right at 10% and hold it there.

That’s the end goal, though it’ll take me a while to get there since it’s nearly impossible to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.

Just thinking about the future.

Hint I

Why Are Guys So Bad at Picking Up On Hints?

Because this is not how men relate to each other. It’s a feminist shibboleth that men always know what women are hinting at secretly, but just don’t want to comprehend. I can tell you, though, in most cases this is 100% false. I and every guy I know have had women hint things at us to which we’ve been utterly and completely oblivious.

Here’s a hint (heh): Men generally verbalize something to convey information directly or to assert some form of dominance. I am not telling you this in a normative sense. I am just describing what is. We generally do not use hints and when we do, they are unsubtle and obvious. Mostly, we ask or declare directly and succinctly. This is the source of the divergence.

I have gotten better at picking up the hints that women give off so it is possible. I’ve gone from about a 10% hint hit rate to maybe 50%. And that is a huge improvement! But it’s still far from perfect so I get it wrong a great deal.

I am actually trying, though, but it’s not something I will ever be even half as good at as the bottom quintile of women.

If we succeed in wiping out insects, that alone will be an extinction-level event for humanity. If insect biomass drops below some crucial threshold, humanity by and large will not outlast the century and by 2200 we’ll have all but dwindled into nothingness.

If you think this is exaggeration — well, I pity you because you probably just don’t want to know the truth.
