Yep! People pretend this isn’t true, but it is.

I’ll never be over six feet tall, but about getting fitter (and I knew this would happen), I’ve noticed a huge difference in how both men and women treat me after having gone from schlubby and fairly weak to definitely looking fit and strong. And it’s a huge difference. Men are more respectful and women pay far more attention to me.

Deny it all you want, but it is what it is.

People really don’t update their mental images of you very quickly. Was thinking about this related to an incident that happened after I’d been in the army a few years. I’d become literally three times as physically strong as when I joined up and looked totally different, but my pre-existing friends and acquaintances were the least likely to pick up on this.

Went over to a friend’s house in North Florida and his dad was working on his dump truck. His father was a professional dump truck driver. There was some part of the tail gate of the truck on the ground. It happened to be in front of me, and his dad mentioned that it needed to be moved, but said that he and my friend would do it because I couldn’t lift it.

At that time, I could deadlift 400+ pounds. I was far stronger than they both were, likely put together, though I had not been in high school at all 3+ years before.

Without a word, I picked up the tailgate part and moved it 20 feet without even a strain. It wasn’t even that heavy to me — probably weighed about 120 pounds.

The look on both of their faces was something you wish you had a camera for. Even after that, I’m not sure their image of me really got updated. Humans are strange.

Yeah. According to many “progressives,” I’m alt-right because I don’t believe that Russia and Putin have immense mind control powers, and I don’t support all of our various absurd overseas adventures.

Great tweets. I agree completely. I’ve written before about the cognitive complexity increasing for participating in society. It’s taken a huge toll on the less intellectually talented or inclined and is only getting worse.

Since progressives don’t believe in any differences between people, they aren’t able to talk about this at all — yet another huge scotoma of theirs.

We’ve just written off anyone with an IQ below 115 or so, unless their parents are rich. Progressives are ok with this, because ugh, deplorables, and anyway, IQ isn’t real (which means they just can’t, as noted, talk about it).

Happened to me when I realized that the bag I was carrying my laptop to work in was older than the intern I was speaking with. I bought it in the army. Bag was 23 years old. Intern was 21.

Exactly. Every single holiday ever is made-up, ersatz, bullshit, fake, built on shaky or wrong or terrible foundations, and are are at the same time necessary for building a community, a society, a nation — and are just plain fun.

The arrogant, clueless “progressive” thinking they are springing some big gotcha on everyone by saying, “Here’s the REAL HISTORY of Thanksgiving” are the equivalent of the tech-bro-engineer “well, actually….” guy and just as annoying and worthless.

What good do the progs think attempt to take away Thanksgiving is even going to do, anyway? How do they think that helps anything at all?

Of course, when you look at it in the light of their attempt at open borders nonsense and their overweening project of enforcing the neoliberal order, their desired destruction of traditions and nuance makes more sense I guess.

Windows Defender and also many, many NBA (network behavioral analysis) tools use non-trivial probabilistic models to assess system threats.

An interesting consequence of this is that on two endpoints loaded with all the same versions of everything, some file or process might be marked as a threat and quarantined on one system, while on a functionally-identical machine the same (SHA1-identical hash) file is not. Makes many things much harder rather than easier.
