Not Set Weight

Overall, severe obesity will be more common in 2030 than obesity was in the 1990s.

What. The. Fuck.

Something has gone very wrong somewhere. Likely in many different places, but there’s nothing “natural” about this. I know the Fat Acceptance shitheels are just trying to cope, but they aren’t helping. HAES is BS, but there will be no conversation about any of it due to no money pointing the right direction and people entrenching the harm by building identities around fatness and the like.

Sociality

Do people really find any decent social relationships at work? I never have and not many people I know have, either. Not that I know many people, but outside certain “creative” fields I think this is quite rare. It appears she just happens to be in one of those fields.

Qualley-ty

I watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

What a loving, sprawling, tonally-confused mess that I still adored. It was like a reverie, almost Lynchian in some aspects, with no real plot to speak of. And that is not a knock against the film at all. What I think it mainly was attempting to do is to immerse one in a world departed, mostly forgotten, even by those who lived it. It worked; the whole milieu felt utterly foreign. We have changed so much since then while mostly denying it — but Tarantino understands how much has changed, thus he can transport us back to that world of greater openness and receptivity to…just whatever happens.

And Margaret Qualley! Holy crap, she was just great. I liked her ok in The Leftovers, sure. Nothing wrong with her performances there. Perfectly solid. But in Once she was giving off sparks of insuppressible energy. Great acting and inhabited that role completely; all the subtle little physical things she does are just perfect.
