Glad PCs exist and are still reasonably usable. They give such an advantage over the smartphone droolers.

I tend to think people on this site love language too much. Regardless of what side they fall on regarding taboo words or whether you *need* theory, they all have this fetishization of what I consider to just be tools

That’s because Twitter (and large parts of the non-normie internet) are chockablock with academics and journalists. These people worship words and think the world consists of lexemes and their logic. While words and language are not unimportant, this view is certainly very cloistered and leads people to believe they are involved in “activism” and “changing the world” when in reality they are just faffing about purposelessly, being worse than useless.

itโs gonna be so funny to see how absurd woke takes will have to get this decade for people to pay attention to them. weโre like a year max from โitโs racist to do the dishesโ

I fully expect (because it’s already kinda started), statements like, “It’s colonialism to eat anything but soy gruel and Impossible Burgers™ and shows that you are a true fascist Nazi!” as woke capital fully aggregates with neoliberal faux-activism.

I am not a rationalist because the universe is not rational.
Hint: just because you can write it in a provable equation doesn’t make it rational. Quite the opposite! Equations only encapsulate what is or can be. Neither of those things have to make sense, and often they do not. For instance, Bell’s theorem doesn’t really make sense but it appears to be 100% true.
If that’s rational, then rationality has a lot of explaining to do.

Some perspective on the devastating scale of the #AustralianFires:
-100s of fires are blanketing a country the size of the US or Europe
-5 million hectares of land have burned. Thatโs 5x the size of the Amazon fires & 50x the California fires#AustraliaBurns #AustraliaFires pic.twitter.com/ALddUzpUPb

And yet dipshit liberals disbelieve climate change’s severity and think that it will not have any real impact. Also, many of them believe that the biosphere is irrelevant. However, as Australia goes, the rest of the world will follow.
I single out liberals because they should know better.

I like reading “smart” people’s take on Watchmen because what they miss helps me understand the world better: why they miss what they do, what they don’t have the systems/holistic thinking to understand is occurring at the first or second level of the show.
This is easier and more productive with books, but almost no one reads most of the academic non-fic books I read so finding discussions about them is nearly impossible. TV shows are what people talk about so it’s the mirror and the crystal ball I can use to examine the shrouded parts of culture and shared reality.

I met two lovely ladies on a college campus yesterday. They looked like they were in their early 30s.
I later found out that they were both 21 years old and still in college.
This is a recurring theme I've observed lately, where women look much older than they actually are.

Being fat and eating garbage will do this. Seems to be worse on women, for some reason — perhaps because both men and women pay more attention to women’s appearances. I’ve noticed it, too, what Preethi is talking about. I see people (men too) who are in their 20s but look 40+, and not in any good way.
