The world that corporate industrialized garbage food, fat acceptance and apathy have wrought. The future was a mistake.

The pandemic is Trump writ monstrously large: the media’s been lost in an uproar about it, but profits and traffic keep getting better… https://t.co/ACHFwkMMmo

Lord it sure is a long way from those days, isn’t it? Of course these doofuses were always wrong, as was obvious to any non-dumbass at the time. But that sure does seems like a different world now — one where it was racist to practice social distancing, masks didn’t work, and the experts knew what the fuck was going on.
All gone now.

TONY FAUCI in January 2017, at a @georgetown_ghss–@HarvardGH summit on pandemics, said the new Trump team should expect a surprise crisis no matter what.

This was predictable because zoonotic infections tend to emerge from the interface of humankind and nature, and we’ve been doing a lot more of that recently and in a very destructive manner. So when people are like, “HAR HAR, hippies are just using this to protect NATURE” (like that’s a bad thing), understand that yet again they are poor thinkers who utterly fail to begin to comprehend how ecosystems and other complexities function in the real world.
As I’ve said before, not a Black Swan event. Utterly predictable — just not the exact time.

True:
Awk Awk Ack
Observing Kevin Drum do data analysis is as embarrassing as watching a 52-year-old man hit on a 19-year-old waitress in an Applebee’s.
Just. No.

In my experience, only 10-20% of users can successfully operate a three-key keyboard shortcut even after quite a lot of practice.
When you’re considering UI/UX, just think about that.

Congratulations to Medicare for All opponents โ this is the system you defended, and you are now getting the results you were warned about. Kudos! https://t.co/Zg2dUzlx1t

The “Believe Women” position was *specifically* meant to apply to cases where the evidence is inconclusive. So yes obviously it is a rejection of that position to go against Tara Reade. BUT also important to emphasize: Biden has done many *other* well-proven sexual misconducts.
โ Matt Bruenig (@MattBruenig) April 14, 2020
Well, “Believe Women” was only something white liberal feminists said when it was convenient for their own advancement, or didn’t otherwise harm related efforts. Nothing like principles, is there?

And the white collar layoffs are beginning in earnest:
Going to get a lot — a lot — worse before it gets better. I expect a few tiers of major white-collar layoffs soon, stretching into next year. My prediction for peak unemployment rate is 26% in February 2021. Large error bars, though, on all of it. My 95% CI best estimate is U3 of 18-35% and a U6 of 27-42% by Q1 2021.
Let’s hope for all our sakes that I am amiss. I’ll never have been so glad to be wrong.
