Gymmed

This article is men-focused and a bit misogynistic, but the advice doesn’t really differ for women. The below is 100% the case.

TRUTH 1: YOUR GYM IS YOUR ENEMY

You’ve seen it a hundred times โ€“ the same thing I saw upon walking into my first brand-name franchise gym: roughly 5 percent taken up by free weights; 5 percent by stretching areas; 50 percent by cardio machines; 50 percent by weight machines. Any reasonable person might conclude that cardio and weight machines are the best gear for getting fit. They’re not. Nobody thinks they are โ€“ not even the people who make them or the gym owners who buy them.

So glad I learned all this in the military, and have been safely ignoring standard fitness baloney since then. What’s in that article is how you actually get strong, resilient and more capable. Everything else is just wasting time.

I know, as with most “intellectuals” and with (for example) Ian Welsh, there is huge bias against weightlifting. And part of that is I think because it fucking works. And it’s hard. That combo makes most people hate a thing before any other factors even come into play.

Not everything in this article is correct. For instance, dumbbells are also a great way to train and hit your stability/secondary muscles even harder (for certain lifts) than barbell lifts ever do. And getting to 10 percent body fat isn’t all that difficult. But the piece gets most of it right and that’s better than 99% of fitness articles.

Confusion Reactor

This is so very true.

The confusion we’re describing here might sound minor to someone who’s never done professional IT supportโ€”but at any kind of scale, it adds up very quickly. A single, badly confused employee can require several hours to sort outโ€”particularly when the support they actually need may very well be for a home computer, which hasn’t been set up for corporate access and control in the first place.

One single confused computer-incompetent person can keep a helpdesk person tied up for days at a time, sometimes. It’s happened to me and I’ve seen it happen.

For a sister company (note: I didn’t manage the IT for this company. If I did, this would’ve never happened) where a user forgot her passwords and changed some to something unknown, I spent more than two days fixing all the problems this caused, including a complete remote rebuild of her machine. One user. More than two days of me doing almost nothing else! (And this isn’t unusual. Some of the worst users basically need their own full-time helpdesk person.)

It’s shocking when you realize how little most people know about how to use their own computers — even very easy things, like what actual applications they open to complete their daily work.

How Change

This is certainly what most liberal men are taught — that it’s damaging to a woman to ask her out or to have sex with her, that it’s not feminist, that any approach is harassment. And it’s only gotten worse over the years!

Of course the so-called “alphas” are successful because they just ignore all this horseshit and do what they want. So the incels are often right that the worst/most pushy men end up dating a whole lot more, because they utterly ignore “feminist” dating advice.

Once I also ignored this advice, I was a lot more successful too.

No Open

Very sagacious thread by Aella. This is exactly why I read her.

Her insight is also very similar to a post I had been pondering for a few weeks, but she’s basically written it for me so why bother. The gist is that OnlyFans and “WAP” and such are signs of increased prudishness and lack of openness rather than promiscuity (as is often assumed).

Glad I am not the only one who has picked up on this enormous cultural change. She also recognizes that sex is not some minor, whimsical activity but a basic human drive — something liberals (fucking absurd dipshits) assiduously deny for some reason.

Fuck the algorithm. Destroy it all. Burn it all down and start over.

Choc Full

Uh-oh, asymmetrical power. You had chocolate chip cookies and they did not.

These days, that’d be abuse and harassment in the liberal mind.

Down Lock

Same.

One is understandable; the other is economy-destroying and hugely regressive. And to the liberals who say “the economy doesn’t matter.” Oh, shut up. Tell me that when you are homeless and starving.

Syndem

Covid-19 is really a syndemic โ€” and that shows us how to fight it. Coronavirus does not act alone but with co-morbidities such as obesity and diabetes.

HAES proving again to be utter and complete bullshit the moment any real-world stress hits. We always knew this, but a survivable illness is not so survivable if you’re the size of a house.

Of course, a lot of the underlying causes of even the above are systemic.

โ€œFocusing on the virus alone is a mistake,โ€ he told me, of the single-minded pursuit of Covid-19 treatments and vaccines. The deadly impact of the pandemic โ€œis not caused by the virus acting alone but interacting with chronic diseases like diabetes, obesity, heart disease and high blood pressure โ€” all against a background of inequality and poverty. We canโ€™t fully control the infection without addressing those factors.โ€

It’s always a dilemma where the line between individual and collective responsibility should fall. However, no matter where it falls, in the end the only person who is really going to care about you and your health is you.

Act accordingly.

Curving

Coronavirus: WHO joins the Great Barrington Declaration by condemning lockdowns.

This appears to be not all of WHO, but one person. Nevertheless, I mostly agree.

Remember, lockdowns were supposed to be for a limited time only (as we said way back then) to “flatten the curve.” They were never intended to do what we are attempting to use them to achieve. Nor in my opinion should they be used for this long term, nor repeated endlessly.

Thay way lies madness — sometimes literally.

Know-Nothings

Eh, Milena, most people know almost nothing, and what they do “know” is just wrong, as in this case. But indeed, Cleopatra was not Arab but was Macedonian Greek. It’s very unlikely that the royal line would’ve intermarried with the local Egyptian Arabs, so, not so shockingly, she would’ve looked like a Macedonian Greek.

Cit a Spell

I think the US should open its borders to anyone from Philippines, Iraq, Venezuela, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Get on the plane/boat and come on over. Immediate citizenship and $50,000 to get you started up. No waiting. Other countries, apply and wait a few months, then you get a resident card. Citizenship in a year or two.

I’d have to think about what to do about North Africa because that is the worst cultural fit.

Keeps on Ticking

No. I expect the liberals to go full on even more prude/algorithmic after this, where contact with anyone “unauthorized” will be seen as immoral.

They want the algos to take over. They deeply, deeply desire this — the ecstasy of not having to make decisions any longer.

Most people don’t want freedom. And have it they will not.

EVH II

What I loved about watching Eddie Van Halen play is he always looked like he was having fun and he made impossible things look effortless. What a performance.

I love the part where he’s playing two different melodies at the same time and looping them around one another and using the distortion to be essentially a bridge. Just HOW.

Hammer T

In Tori Amos’ song “Winter,” just thinking about how she keeps hammering that Eโ™ญ one octave above the tonic. That shouldn’t work but it does. It would never occur to me to do something like that. That’s why she’s a great songwriter and I’m not.

It’s like an alarm, a distress signal, a warning. It’s another perfect moment in a perfect song.

Speaking of perfect, I have no idea how this exists as it was recorded in 1991, but I found a 1080p version of “Winter,” a performance that I’d already found, though only the lower-resolution version. It’s possible it was upscaled but it doesn’t appear that way to me. This means that it was shot on film, which doesn’t seem likely as it doesn’t look like film, though. I can’t explain it but here it is:

The reason I doubt it was upscaled is that if it were you would not for instance be able to see details like how her lipstick gets on her mic and then that transfers to her nose and chin (very cute, by the way).

Just what a fucking brilliant performance and song. I am in awe once again.
