Tasked

I used to read, watch a movie and listen to music at the same time.

I don’t do that anymore, but I still could if I wanted to. “Impossible to multitask” is some shit only scientists doing weird, improper tests believe. In reality, people successfully multitask all the time in all sorts of ways.

It’s only in unfamiliar, extremely-high cognitive load tasks where multitasking is a problem.

Muschooled

This shows just how much of muscle (especially arm musculature) is cosmetic, and how much genetics matter (a lot):

To be clear, I think aesthetics and the cosmetic matter just enormously much for humans! Else I wouldn’t have worked on my own arms so much. But it’s not the same as true strength.

You Sure Got a Purity Mouth

I’m in the “dirty” camp.

The left also want sexual purity, just in a different guise. And I’m not sure the left want racial “purity,” quite, but there is not a good word or phrase for what they do desire there. Maybe “irreducible authenticity?” Best I can manage without deeper thought.

But Aella is on the right track regarding the neuroses of both sides.

Codesplosion

Docker and Kubernetes are kind of funny things because they do work poorly, and are sort of designed (if you can call it “designed”) to work that way, because failure is what they expect.

So it’s self-realizing in a way. They expect failure, are designed to fail, and do fail a lot.

I prefer designing something actually resilient, but this is what happens when you throw developers at infrastructure: you end up with nearly-incomprehensible complexity to which the only solution is more code and more infrastructure.

Which, of course, the cloud providers love and very actively encourage.

Kathy V

If you want to hear lots of Kathy Valentine bass playing (which, who wouldn’t), the below is your ticket. It’s at the top of the mix rather than buried. As it should be! She’s the best musician in the band.

Her bass is so sparkly (I mean, literally in this case). And go to 18:00 if you want to hear something special.

Obamanocare

I used to get so enraged by Amanda Marcotte and Kevin Drum, when health care costs would rise by 10-15% a year, saying things like, “Well, without Obamacare, they would’ve gone up 20%!”

Who gives a FUCKKKKKKKKK.

Or they’d just claim that the rise in costs people, and the stats, were reporting were somehow all lies. “Believe science” indeed until the numbers contradict your absurd wankery.

Bassing On What

Love, love Kathy Valentine on the bass. One of the best bassists of all time. She’s so fucking good and so much fun to watch.

You ever notice how all bass players, male or female, are often just weirder than anyone else? I wonder why that is?

Wit

This goes along with what I’ve observed about the left/liberal word obsession.

None of that survives contact with the real world.

AOS

Every year, every update, my computer and the applications thereon becomes less under my control and more under the control of unaccountable and amoral corporations.

And people tell me this is for my own good. I guess people will believe any old shit.

Nose Hold

That’s it right there. These days, you hold your nose and vote for what smells less shitty. It’s the only choice on offer — which is the way the establishment (particularly the Dems) want it to be.

Biden had absolutely zero chance of a blowout because he’s about as exciting as a can of warm sardines. That the Dems expected any sort of landslide was hilarious.
