Will Help Naught

“I wonder if it hurts if I punch myself in the face.”

This will help nothing but will harm a lot of people. It will worsen the economy, allow predatory bosses freer reign (one of the main purposes of this), and not actually help, well, anything. So of course many people are keen to do it.

I live in a country full of vindictive idiots.

Human Interest

Ha. I’ve noticed this too.

Tech-bro STEM cheerleader:
Everyone who is anyone will want to be tracked 24/7 and have my new “Yellow Sun” tracking emblem letting everyone know that I track them the best!

Humanities grad: Uh, I think I see a slight problem with this….

Tech-bro STEM cheerleader: LOL, you have a useless humanities degree. This is going to be such a huge concentration of success!

People Think This Way

I’m struggling to understand what this has to do exactly with masks. I know she is vaccinated, which means her chance of becoming infected with Covid is very, very small, and even if she becomes infected, the chance of spreading it (as the viral load will be almost-unmeasurably low) is extremely small. What’s the issue here? If you’re vaccinated, your risk is vanishingly small of catching Covid and/or spreading it no matter who is masked or unmasked around you.

Do people really believe we should just wear masks all the time no matter the risk? I refuse that. Call me an anti-masker if you like. I do what makes sense, not what makes other people feel good.

How Locked?

Lockdowns are very harmful, of course, but the question is if they are more harmful than the alternative? That is, a pandemic burning out of control and overwhelming hospital systems, and do lockdowns adequately control that while preserving any sort of society?

In that light, while it’s clear lockdowns do work, as their length and restrictiveness continues the utility calculation begins to look less favorable to that method.

I don’t presume to know where the dividing line is exactly, but places that had year-long lockdowns and such are going to see some real long-term mental health consequences from that, and for many those consequences are going to be very bad indeed.

Doom-mongering Pays

Agreed that we need to work on getting vaccines to everyone. It’s somewhat likely a variant could emerge that defeats most vaccines, and that’d be totally our fault if so.

What bothers me is that people who are consistently wrong never face any consequences, though. For instance, the much-ballyhooed US mega-surge of doom which I said wouldn’t happen and did not, and which more than half of liberals were screeching about incessantly — though I was right and they were wrong, they will receive more plaudits for being doom-mongers than I will be for being completely correct.

Makes no damn sense.

Bio Logic

The difference isn’t quite this large in reality, but it’s near this. This is why biological males should not ever be competing in women’s sports.
