It’s not that I am a genius. It’s that I have stood on the faces of dumbasses.

Cult It Out
The family just watched 48 Hours and it was significantly more racist & misogynist and less funny than I expected, hooboy
— Emily Lakdawalla (@elakdawalla) May 2, 2021
It’s not just that — it’s that the whole culture changed. It’s weird that even most people who lived through it (Emily is roughly my age) can’t really remember just how different it was then. It’s not some act — they truly cannot recall.
What she’s saying isn’t wrong, exactly, but it misses so much. Everyone related to and viewed each other very differently then. The whole basis of social relations in the 1980s bore little resemblance to our own, in ways that are almost indescribable if you weren’t there. It’d take a book.
I guess that’s part of why most people, even those who were there, can’t recall? It’s nearly impossible to run two different “social OSes” at one time, and to really understand what it was like then that is essentially what one must do. I believe it is easier for me to do such a thing because I have always been such an outsider — especially then, but even now, by choice.
Big Nope
A grim prediction —
The India version of Covid is a double mutation and in some cases, a triple. This strain of Covid is now in the United States and it outsmarts current vaccines. It will rip through this country like a wildfire. This is why you need to wear a mask still. pic.twitter.com/hocTFibtB0— Leftward Swing🌹🌻 (@LeftwardSwing) May 2, 2021
Irresponsible bullshit.
Vaccines appear effective against India Covid variant.
The “India variant” will be a big nothing here just like all those other very scary variants were. Remember that, how they were going to make the vaccines useless, and we’d all be wearing 80 masks, etc.?
Yeah. This will be the same.
No FA Way
From March last year (start of lockdown) – was I right? https://t.co/MZsCJvg0qa
— GuruAnaerobic (@GuruAnaerobic) May 1, 2021
Indeed. If I remember correctly, 70% of those who died of Covid were obese (in Western countries).
Thank you, Fat Acceptance clowns.
No Art
19/ Itโs very weird, on several levels, that the contemporary variety of social justice has so thoroughly dominated our cultureโs ideas without producing one influential work of art, fiction, or music.
— Ben Landau-Taylor (@benlandautaylor) May 1, 2021
That’s because it’s godawful stultifying, boring, and anti-creative. Social justice for some reason came to be all about what you can’t say, can’t do, can’t transgress, or explore, or ask questions about. No great art came directly out of the Spanish Inquisition either, and there’s a very similar reason for that.
Matric
โPeople always learn what they have to, what is appropriate to their environment. Han, you grew up in a culture which has schools for general purpose and schools for every conceivable subclassification of data, but they do not as a rule spread knowledge or wisdomโjust assemblies of data. As you have them, schools work on your society just like the differentiating fashions in clothes your sexes use, and hair styles as wellโthey obscure the innate differences, muddy them, make everyone equal, but it is the equality of a faรงade. People really are different from one another. And schools obscure the only kinds of knowledge worth knowing.โ

Raise It Up
The #MinimumWage does not kill jobs. Employers who under-pay workers can raise wages w/o killing jobs. Thatโs why the #MinimumWage INCREASES employment in the most concentrated labor markets. — Ioana Marinescu (@mioana) July 8, 2019
This has been clear for a long time, but nice to see yet more confirmations. I have seen some credible literature that in the worst/least productive markets, there are some diminished jobs, and this is of course bad for these people and should be considered.
However, raising minimum wage is a huge net win for everyone nearly everywhere.
Pod Shot
As for that last tweet, that bit of foot-shooting will be responsible for how many hundreds of thousands of deaths that didn’t have to happen? You can blame the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers (and I do), but the (mostly) liberals with the above and their, “Even after the vaccine, if you go outside with a bare face or hug anyone or even look happy, you have killed ALL THE GRAMMAS!” bear a lot of responsibility too.
Gaol
Outrageous. Itโll be a crime to come home. All because this rotten, corrupt, incompetent Morrison โgovernmentโ has abandoned its responsibility to run quarantine. How low can these bastards go ? https://t.co/bAG5eb7Nfp
— Mike Carlton (@MikeCarlton01) April 30, 2021
Lots of countries are essentially becoming prisons to “deal with Covid.” Of course it has nothing to do with Covid, really.
Slip
Here is the first push of the lockdown lifers, a real attempt to start up the precursors of the living-in-pods-and-eating-bugs existence of which many liberals dream (mainly for others).
You think I exaggerate, but Covid-19 restrictions (as the article itself even admits) opened the way for this, and oh yeah, there’s gonna be way more of it coming down the pike.
Which color pod would you like? (Just kidding; they’re all gray.)
Socio Path Walking
how to deal with the brutal reality of people dying while gasping for air at the same time that other people are opting-out of vaccines that are readily available to them and insisting they donโt need to wear masks because other peopleโs lives do not matter
— stacy-marie ishmael (@s_m_i) May 2, 2021
I was thinking the same thought yesterday, and how angry the “hoax pandemic” and anti-masker, anti-vaxxer idiots make me. It’s just a complete unconcern with other people’s lives.
Pol Work
I just read what this is all about – what a bunch of crybabies! They're quitting bec they can't talk politics in the workplace. I THANK GOD for every job where that was discouraged bec my politics are too radical for most people.
— Sandra N. (@SandraHelena39) May 1, 2021
Yeah, what the fuck. I don’t really want my racist uncle anti-masker anti-vaxxer to say a fucking peep about politics at work. I don’t want to know, don’t have any interest in that being brought up in the workplace. That sort of talk occurring at work doesn’t help anyone.
The left always assumes they’ll be on the advantaged side of an issue, as they did with censorship. They are wrong, and obviously so, but it’s also kind of funny how clueless they are about how this will play out in reality.
Men Shift
Iโm a socially awkward person, but because the world reads me as female, Iโm allowed to be kind to strangers and friendly to children I donโt know. Which is good, because thatโs my instinct.
I canโt imagine what it would be like to have that instinct squashed/made suspect. https://t.co/c5WoGpQFof— Laurie Penny (@PennyRed) April 28, 2021
I can tell you that it really sucks to be treated as always suspect.
And as an adult man, you get that a lot. Constantly. Do something nice for someone female? YOU MUST WANT TO FUCK HER.
Be friendly to any kid anywhere? YOU DIRTY PEDOPHILE!
Men often have to go out of their way to be unkind so as not to be perceived as creeps. I don’t think most women really realize this, so I am glad Laurie brought it up.
The Seams Cracking
All this talk of “authentic self” and “authenticity” in general is such a sham. It’s just BS. It’s a neoliberal con job and when you’re out in the world doing things, it matters not a whit.
Esse quam videri: “to be, rather than to seem” is how I’d prefer to live my life.
No Pleasure
If liberals get any more prudish and uptight, they’re going to burst like a watermelon with a thousand rubber bands wrapped around it.
I’ve been reading fiction from the 1970s, and the way it discusses sex and normal human relations is so refreshing. Sure, there are (as they say) problematic areas, but in general it was more frank, more forthright, more human and humane, and just in general far more healthy.
Liberals being the ones against pleasure (not just sexual) is something I did not see on the horizon, but here we are. WTF?
