The Personal

Indeed. I was several times more productive when I had a personal assistant. Ah, those were good times.

Tab No Flab

Wow, look at this commercial from 1981. People would lose their fucking minds if something like this aired now.

These days, we’re supposed to pretend it’s honorable and beautiful to weigh 400 pounds and be barely capable of walking. And when I say that prudishness has increased and it’s denied — well, the evidence is everywhere. Can you imagine a commercial like this airing anywhere now, where that’s literally the first shot?

Chained Up

A…blockchain firewall? That might be one of the most harebrained ideas I’ve ever heard, and I grew up in rural North Florida.

How absurdly slow that would is hard to even think about.

Low Prob

Doubt it’s quite that low, but it’s pretty low (think this is an example of a common statistical mistake of attempting to multiply probabilities, and it doesn’t really work that way). Anywway, anti-vaxxers driving like mad but refusing to get the jab, etc. Makes no sense.

Don’t want a life of hiding inside crying due to minor and easily-ameliorated risks, but a lot of people sure seem to want that very much.

Shelter In Place

I’m guessing what we’re likely to end up with out of Covid in many places (mostly Europe, but others too) is that only the rich have an easy time traveling anywhere outside their home country. For the rest, it becomes very difficult to travel internationally.

It’s been quite a whipsaw experience watching (mostly) liberals clamoring for open borders to ever-tighter restrictions. And sad.

Fall More

I told a woman in a grocery store a few days ago that she was wearing a cute dress. She obviously enjoyed the compliment and I’d do it again, despite all the liberal tears falling.

Reject asceticism and disconnection; reject hiding inside crying. Engage with the world and be more than a vampire, draining energy from everyone else. Better is possible.

Unmask All

The CDCโ€™s critics are wrong. The agency was right to relax indoor masking.

Indeed it was, and I am not saying that just because I dislike masks. Vaccines are available to all, except kids, who don’t tend to get severely ill (or barely even ill at all) from Covid. Unless you are in a high-risk group now, if you don’t get vaccinated it’s on you. (And as a cruel aside, at least the Trumpist anti-vaxxers are only going to be killing themselves and each other soon. That’s some justice there.)

Cases are in freefall. It’s time to ease up, ya’ll. You don’t have to cower inside crying. I mean, you can if you want to, but I’d rather not. And I’m not gonna.
