Too many libs allowed the pandemic and the strictures necessary to mitigate against it define their lives and personalities.
Ya’ll need some kind of religion. This is getting creepy.

This will be very unpopular, but it’d be extremely unlikely if all of the very prejudicial things humans believed about one another were scientifically unsupported.
That doesn’t tell you which ones are true, mind you (and I certainly do not claim to know), but it’s very likely that some are.
Inspired by this:

A lot of so-called woke people and liberal types seem to want to go back to some form of traditionalism, just with some gayness.
What I mean is that they wish to enforce really strict moral and sexual codes, some far more strict than even conservative Christians ever had any interest in, but apply them in ways that are somewhat altered. Staggeringly, many of them also want to return to a modified form of segregation as well.
I’m guessing this is a rechanneling of long-subverted and deeply-suppressed religious sentiments, but I don’t really know.
High risk of autumn Covid surge in Europe despite drop in infections, says WHO.
Ha. They want everyone locked inside their own homes and in their own countries eternally, it appears. That’s the game now, but we don’t have to play.
money solves so many of your fucking problems and iโm so fucking mad about it
— Alix E. Harrow (@AlixEHarrow) June 9, 2021
Yes it does. I remember what it’s like not having money and I would never, ever want to go back to that.
I have a problem? I throw money at it until it’s solved. Took me a while to get used to doing that but now I do and it fucking rules. But I agree that it should not be this way.
The government is basically making sure everybody is going to rent forever.
The only possible upside is if we seize control of BlackRock and turn it into a housing bureau https://t.co/8lbG61C0OP

This will not end well. But it will end in neo-feudalism. What will stop it? I can’t see anything on the horizon that will oppose this even in a minor way.
The Clinical Epidemiology book is giving me some good ideas for my Risk and the Real World book.
As a friend of mine says about statistics, it’s not intuitive at all. Your intuitions here are often really really wrong!
Today, we crossed 300 Million doses administered
Of which nearly 290 Million doses are mRNA vaccines (Moderna, Pfizer)
The safety profile of these vaccines is extraordinary
I can't think of anything else we've given nearly 300M doses of — with so few untoward effects

Indeed. A just staggering and amazing achievement, equivalent to going to the moon in 1969. Whatever our other failures, and they were many, what a colossal accomplishment.
By the way, we will need much more of this sort of thing to fight climate change and other problems, not loserish degrowth lockdown-lifer nonsense.
Started a book called Evidence-Based Diagnosis: An Introduction to Clinical Epidemiology tonight. It’s pretty well-written for this sort of work.
It does have a great section on No TreatโTest and TestโTreat Probability Thresholds and how all that functions, which I have never understood — until tonight! So I do recommend it, but it requires a good bit of background knowledge. As do most books I read, so I should probably stop writing that. But as such things go, it’s not too bad. It’s mainly a book (unsurprisingly) about how to avoid deceiving yourself with bad data or bad presuppositions.
Come on now, who thinks there’s any chance they won’t use lockdowns for climate change purposes as soon as possible? Of course it’s gonna happen.
I expect this in 2 years or so. We should’ve been resisting lockdowns from the jump.
On the delta variant (B.1.617.2) in the UK: confirming the remarkable protection from vaccines

So…why must we lock down and close the borders forever? Why, exactly?
I don’t know if all ya’ll have not realized it yet, but lockdowns after the first month had nothing to do with controlling the virus and everything to do with controlling the populace and destroying the “wrong” businesses.
Vaccines work. Liberals who advovate for infinite lockdown etc., you are gleefully participating in your own oppression. Which you’re so prudish and boring you probably don’t have enough self-respect to even give a fuck anymore anyway.
This is correct. There is no “smoking gun” and no direct evidence that a lab leak led to Covid. The evidence is only circumstantial. And sure, it’s certainly possible a hugely-improbable series of events resulted in a virus with no known local animal host to somehow independently become unleashed outside of the lab studying those very viruses, and where known GoF research was being conducted.
But you know, I would not bet that way at all. Not at all.
I expect there at some point to be another minor Covid surge in the US (and the UK). Of course when that happens, the liberals will emerge from their Morlock holes bawling and caterwauling about how we should’ve been locked down the whole time, how this definitively proves our moral turpitude, that we should have been inside weeping wistfully wearing 50 masks while there yet remained a single Covid case in the entire world, even in a cat or a hamster.
Don’t those people get tiresome? Why can’t they just do what they want, and stay inside forever without attempting to impose that on the rest of us?
My advice is to live life while you can. There will always be some next disaster, another incipient calamity, some risk that could lay you low, something unknown and unknowable that lies lurking. But what does it matter? No one gets out life alive and there’s much joy and jouissance to be had, no matter what the whiny wankers claim.
Remember, others diminish you in an attempt to make themselves feel taller. It doesn’t take much to stand up to them. It’s simple, really: literally stand right up, walk out your door, and go have fun while they cringe and quail, terrified of the light. It won’t be long before you don’t even recall them at all, save for a brief reminder, quickly forgotten, as you notice peculiar whimpering sounds emerging from murky windows and doors ever shut.
It’s going to be odd when 70-80% of everyone is vaccinated and the libs are still attempting to convince us how bad open borders are and that we have to hide inside wailing in terror, after their years of calling you “evil” and “racist” if you weren’t an open borders fanatic.
Ok, it’s already weird. But it’s gonna get even weirder.
Dr. Fauci spends most of briefing warning about highly infectious โ and now dominant in UK โ Delta variant. He says transmission is peaking among 12-20 year olds & stresses importance of getting second dose because thereโs poor protection w only one, but strong w/ two doses.
— Kaitlan Collins (@kaitlancollins) June 8, 2021
Going to be tons of excuses for what a lot of people already want: eternal lockdowns and always-closed borders.
Meanwhile, we have vaccines. Let the libs cower under their beds crying if they want to. The rest of us have lives to lead.
