Goaldammit

Very good and reasonable goals. My bench press is right at that, and I can do more than 10 pull-ups. Not sure what my bodyfat percentage is, but definitely below 15%. Don’t have any grandkids and never will, though.

The goals above above do not guarantee good health, but it sure puts you on the path that is more likely to lead that way and stay there. I know, I can hear the Fat Acceptance howlers screeching that “Being fit doesn’t mean you’re healthy! Wahhhh!” But that’s how I’m betting and how anyone who is not a total asscclown would wager too.

Mobile Reasons

I’ve been thinking about the trend of making desktop browsers as limited as possible, and the doomed-to-failure attempt to make them resemble and function like their phone-based counterparts. Part of that is certainly just design and developer laziness and expedience, of course, but that cannot explain it all. (In fact, in many ways, it’s harder to make a desktop program work/behave like a mobile one than to let it be more native.)

You can ignore altogether the fabrications about “security.” It has nothing to do with that at all. That’s just a propaganda distractor.

I’ve concluded that the real reason to make the desktop browsers vastly inferior is to attempt to drive the last holdouts using capable desktop systems onto mobile devices where it’s much harder to block ads, where the device is consumption-friendly and creation-hostile, and the user can be tracked much more readily with no way to prevent this.

The browser makers (et al.) have concluded correctly that by making the desktop experience worse, they can drive users to the mobile devices.

This doesn’t completely explain how Mozilla has destroyed Firefox, but they have tons of other issues and are chock full of “smart” simpletons, so that’s another factor at play there.

Print Dream

Microsoft issues emergency Windows patches for PrintNightmare flaw.

OH NO! Well, that sucks.

I have been using that for many, many years to get around security restrictions on Windows. Discovered it myself around 15 years ago, and never told anyone how it worked as I wanted it in my arsenal. Now that Microsoft has patched that it’ll be harder to defeat IT departments that want me to do something but won’t give me enough rights to do so.

Dammit!

Wrong Quadrant

It’s been…interesting to see a lot of liberals so rapidly change their tune from, “The vaccines work and are miracles!” to “The vaccines don’t really work that well if at all” as they deeply desire to preserve lockdown, masking, and social isolation.

It’s just been devastating to the effort to fight it that the pandemic and so much around it became about identity. Admittedly, the conservative anti-masking anti-vaxxing stance was and is more harmful, but the libs sure aren’t doing themselves any favors here.

Max Vax Stax

The reality of the pandemic that will make liberals cry big is that we should’ve done very accelerated human vaccine trials starting in February of 2020, and if no one died (much) by end of March or April, we should’ve been vaccinating people by May of 2020.

It could’ve been done and it should’ve been done. We had the technology. We had the capability. We just didn’t do it.

Huge mistake that we should not make again. Since we do have the tech, during the next barest indiciation of a pandemic, we should be developing a vaccine. (BTW, developing mRNA vaccines is about 1/100 the cost of developing non-mRNA ones and vastly quicker, too.)

Delta Plane

Remember the below when you see the propaganda — and I have seen loads of it already — about how Delta defeats all the vaccines, that we must stay locked indoors forever now, prison countries are the answer to everything, etc.

The vaccines work. Now that they do, the lockdown lifers and plutes/plute sycophants are attempting a really enormous propaganda push to claim they do not, particularly against Delta. Unfortunately that effort seems to be paying off. In reality, their mendacity will only increase vaccine hesitancy and will kill thousands or more. In their minds, though, it’ll help them get back to the lockdown world of their dreams.

Time to resist this madness.

That Life

Be sure to click to see the whole thing:

The lockdown lifers and prison country worshippers do not give a single fuck. But finally, at least someone is being honest. The vaccine(s) prevent hospitalizations and deaths. Zero Covid was always an impossible goal outside of a few places and the vaccines are working.

I’m beyond enraged at these cowardly idiots. It was ok when they were the ones hiding inside crying, trapped in their prison countries. But that they are forcing it on everyone else is just absurd.

Completely Safe

I’m not linking to any specific tweet/article, because they are ubiquitous. But it is genuinely disturbing to think of how many people believe even the vaccinated should just stay inside for years. That we should wear masks everywhere all the time.

That they think this is any way to live. That they believe in the idea of “completely safe.”

Haven’t the plutes stolen enough of your money and your time already?

Uz Out

I was sitting at a bar in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with the police chief of the city. It was a hotel bar and across from that bar was a gift shop. Working there was a striking and tall blonde woman that I’d chatted with briefly earlier. I guess the police chief had seen me talking to her so he said, gesturing at the woman, “You want her?”

I replied, “Want her? For what? I don’t want any gifts.”

“I’m not talking about gifts. I’m talking about do you want to take her up to a room, she will do whatever you like. Free.”

I was silent for a moment. No, I didn’t even consider it. Just pondering what to say to not cause an international incident. So I told the truth as near as I could, which was, “Oh, thank you, but my bus will be here in a few minutes and I really need to make that. It’s my ride to the airport.”

The reality was the bus wouldn’t be here all that quickly, but I had no interest in having some coerced woman offered to me by the police chief of Tashkent.

Of course I felt bad for the woman. She had been nothing but genuinely nice to me that few minutes I’d chatted with her. I later found out that the chief there was also the biggest pimp in the place and ran dozens of women like the blonde gift shop lady. There was, as often happens in life, no way I could help her, and nothing else I could do.

I made my excuses and left the bar with a glance back at that woman, as she was arranging items in the empty gift shop. I have no idea what her life was like, or if she thought it horrible or ok or even good, but the distance between what liberals imagine sex trafficking is like and what real sex trafficking is like is something I know better than those mooks, by far. I’ve seen it and that’s its shape.

BSSP

I’ve already posted about this, but “blue state scoldy people” is just perfect and so accurate. I couldn’t not embed that.

Used to be, anti-maskers were the enemy. Now it’s the people Angie mentions, and their counterparts in other countries.

Posttext

Angie is right. This was of course predictable. The neoliberals/liberals (really the same these days) were always going to use Covid as a pretext to yet more austerity, and we are seeing exactly that. The “completely safe” mantra is really (in the non-propaganda-infected) about reducing public services and the provisioning of public goods while making a show of protecting that public.

Expect a lot more of this, all completely and fully backed by the “completely safe”-screeching quadruple-masking prison-country-loving pod-craving bug-eating lockdown-lifer (neo)libs.

1619 – 1619 = 0

Nils nails it. That’s exactly it, and the main problem I had with the 1619 Project. It’s the left version of Fox News-like truthiness. It feels true but is mostly malarkey.

Traction

But an economist told me that if I subtract housing costs, health care costs, and student debt, then Millennials and Gen Z are just as wealthy as Boomers were at the same age!

Can’t go wrong with that economist thinking. Never fails you.
