The pandemic has made me quite a lot better at interpreting complex statistical information and making halfway decent inferences therefrom.
However, it’s made me hate a lot more people very deeply and strongly. So…yeah.

if the past year has convinced me of anything, itโs that decades of tv, movies, advertising & social media consumption has rendered a lot of people totally incapable of even the most basic levels of metacognition or independent critical thought. theyโre functionally braindead

This is part of what I mean by “people can’t read.” Of course I mean reading more than words on a page or screen.
They are functionally illiterate. Just brains blasted into oblivion; completely functionless.
With its iPhone/iCloud child abuse image scanning system, Apple puts a foot squarely in the content moderation space. Using human reviewers for the images https://t.co/Gye1NHUtoN pic.twitter.com/8KJM8hdPZM

Wow this is such an incredibly bad idea.
Translation for normals: using terrible AI, when Apple flags a “suspicious” image, a human somewhere is going to be looking at the innocent pictures of your kid splashing around in the bathtub, etc. Or anything! This is going to be nothing but false positives.
I won’t be taking anymore photos with my phone. Note carefully that this is scanning all images on your phone, not just what you upload to iCloud. And if you think it’ll end with that, boy do I have news for you….
I would watch this western https://t.co/ShKqVPhWsx

That’s not an AK-47. It’s probably an AKS-74U or some clone thereof.
But I see SF is in further decline. That’s some Florida shit right there.
My proposal: give all that money to ycombinator instead https://t.co/4NTXzlPaTl

I could get by on a trillion a year.
I need to:
1) Figure out fusion
2) Construct some artificial black holes
3) Start building interplanetary ships
4) Reverse climate change
5) Better bio tech
Ok, make that $2 trillion. Becoming galactic overlord is not a cheap undertaking.
Fitness enthusiast, 42, who rejected vaccine, dies of Covid.
Alas having big muscles doesn’t protect you from Covid.
Dammit. (I’m fully vaxxed. Big muscles are my backup plan.)
Of the 3,343 people who died of COVID in the US last month, only three of them were children or teenagers under 18. It's obviously terrible that *any* kids are dying, but parents have enough going on without being led to believe that COVID is suddenly hitting pediatric ICUs pic.twitter.com/OxzQLvFLSG

Plutes and blue state scoldy people are ramping up the propaganda campaign now to herd us all back inside. It’s not working — yet — but they have high hopes.
Plutes ain’t got quite enough money just yet.
Dear Young Adults,
You can leave.
If you donโt like your doctor, walk out in the middle of your appointment.
Leave the party. End the date. Donโt wait until the โpoliteโ time to leave or endure because you think youโll make a scene.
You can go.

I started doing this when I was quite young and have never regretted it.
If it sucks, hit the bricks! Life is too short to endure people and situations stealing your time and abusing you. Just say no and get up and go.
I miss the Tall Vampire Lady stage of the pandemic, everyone was so hopeful

But…the vaccines are working. Deaths are low. Almost all of the most vulnerable have been jabbed. The rare breakthrough infection has been reduced to a mild cold.
I know Alice is one of those who loves hiding inside for whatever reason…but this is about what I expected? Who thought the pandemic would just disappear the minute some percentage of people got vaccinated? I used to believe a lot of people were a lot smarter than they have turned out to be in practice. It’s been really disappointing to see just how many people can only think well in one tiny little area, and outside of that they are no better than chimps.
I don’t know what to say about it. As a species, we just aren’t that bright.
