It’s weird getting massively better-looking in your mid-40s. I was pretty buff in my early 20s but my face hadn’t matured and changed shape as it has now, so it was much different then.

Going to the grocery store (my most common social experience) is kind of weird now because women just look at me a lot different, and a whole lot more. Some even follow me a little. I know they think they are being subtle but I’m very sensitive to such things due to my background, so they ain’t all that subtle.

Indeed. People have huge problems thinking like this. Many people simply cannot, no matter how much they try — I’d say probably 90% of people can’t do it because the abstractions are just too deep.

This is also the same group, a group that is becoming larger and larger by the day, that wants us all herded into the pods and eating bug slurry “for our own good.” All of this is tied in with the new puritanism and its later expressions in the enforced asceticism of the lockdown lifer/eternal masker types. I know these movements look disconnected but trust me, they are all related. And they are going to get worse. Far worse.

The covid endgame.

Don’t believe the wacky stuff you see on Twitter about endemicity; this is more accurate. The pandemic will be over by spring 2022 for all intents and purposes. Sure, you’ll still have the lockdown lifers caterwauling, but it’ll be them whining about even more of nothing than what they’re wailing about right now.

Viruses aren’t infinitely adaptable. Immune systems learn. Lockdown lifers hide under beds. It’s the way of the world.

About the below, now I’ve just gotta figure out why so many libs get angry when you work out and get nice muscles and such. That one makes even less sense to me. Is it just the desire to Harrison Bergeron everyone? So that no one gets too unequal?

Trying to figure out why so many liberals/lefties believe that traditional/vernacular architecture is racist. Of course part of it is that among that set the word “racist” is used as a general epithet that means roughly what “asshole” means to other people.

That said, I genuinely think that many of them believe that anyone who doesn’t like modernist monstrosities is truly racist. Why, then? I believe it goes back to the to the Lockean “tabula rasa” conceptions that is implicit in most liberal thought. Inherent in this ideology is the idea that humans are infinitely moldable, infinitely adaptable, that we have no nature at all, and certainly nothing that can’t be shaped by a nudge, by education, or by outright coercion “for our own good.”

The idea then that humans naturally favor and better prosper in relatively small-scale communities with traditional-ish designs, operating at a human scale, is therefore “racist” because it further implies that there might be a human nature of some kind. And if there is a human nature, and innate human preferences, then there might be groups that have different, other, innate preferences that might be genetic in nature*. Thus, traditional architecture is definitionally racist to them.

*I’m not saying this is true, but that this is merely their “logic.”
