I’ve heard a lot of dipshit mooks claiming pandemics don’t end. But of course they do, especially when they are something like coronavirus. The “pandemics don’t end” people are just doomsters and lockdown lifers.
This is a damning indictment of health policy in Australia.
In 5 months, with no #covid19 deaths to blame it on, 3500 excess deaths occurred.
These were predominantly allocated to cancer, dementia and "other" causes.

Oopsie. Funny how something like this was an obvious consequence, but that we were told would “not happen.” I’d expect non-pandemic-related excess deaths to continue in Australia and New Zealand for another 20-30 years as a result of the trauma of lockdown(s).

For now. The future is very long, and many things thought impossible have proven to be less so over time. I can find newspaper articles easily from the early 1900s discussing the “fact” that airplanes were worthless toys and would never be used by anyone other than rich hotshots with more money than sense.
Everyone can look smart predicting the failure of something that has never been done. I’d expect better from Nils, but a lot of left-leaning people have a bizarre hatred of anything to do with space.

Speaking of this, on Friday after 5PM a woman at work dropped something on me that she needed by Monday morning. It’d take between 3-5 hours of work.
I told her I’d get to it Monday morning, if I had time. She was pissed. But the fucks I do not give are limitless. Someone else’s poor planning is not my emergency. She’ll live.
If you interpret the prog/lib “for your own good” as always and forever really meaning “for the good of capital” then it makes sense every time.

Great thread. More and more people are noticing the insidious neo-Puritan prudery and austerity, becoming at least aware of the infection even if as yet there are no real countervailing responses that have been effective.
This is hilarious. The whole fucking point of sleep/hibernate/standby is that you don’t have to turn your laptop off all the time, and that your work is just there when you open it. And now these ridiculous assclowns have even broken that in their never-ending quest to remove user control.
Guess it won’t be long before the screen of any device you’re using is streamed non-optionally to some sort of horribly unreliable fake AI to make sure you aren’t doing anything you shouldn’t be doing. And people will embrace this because it’ll be framed as “for their own good” and to “protect the children.”
We deserve the dystopia we’re going to get.

This is what I expect too, and what I said months ago. There’s not likely to be a variant that’s particularly worse, due to the constraints of reality. And many people have immunity already and it doesn’t wane that quickly.
