I have a lot of thoughts about why the degrowther nonsense is in just that, but even apart from the practical determinants that it’s not a path forward for humanity is the reality that it’s philosophically and aesthetically debased.
It is in fact an ugly future of decline and a diminuendo of the human symphony that will eventually and inevitably lead to nothing but extinction. Why liberals want this — why they believe any of it — remains mostly a mystery to me. Part of it is that most of them believe in the power of words above all else. I love words, but greater than all of that, exceeding all words, I affirm the power of reaching for something higher, for wanting something more. There’s a whole universe out there. Hiding on the dirt forever will just lead to all of us being under it.
Liberalism is all but dead. Let’s kill it faster.
