It’s been a strange social feature of the Covid pandemic that if you are a nominal liberal and you don’t offer the most pessimistic and cynical take on the future, then you are seen as not being on the right team. And that team is Team Doom.

This tendency can be seen in the responses to this thread here, but it’s been pervasive throughout the past 18 months. I don’t understand why, really, and I wonder if the people who promulgate this view know how harmful it is to general mental health and taking any sort of concrete actions like better ventilation and vaccination.

I think they do know and just don’t care. That sort of doom-mongering becomes an addiction and like all addictions it needs to be fed.
