This is fucking moronic. Elimination is IMPOSSIBLE. It was NEVER going to happen. It’s a virus that infects and spreads among many, many other species. And poorer places like India could never eliminate it. This is a loony-bin goal; all it would do is keep us locked up forever — which is the actual goal here, of course.

Ok, I’ve read enough about Omicron now to make a 70% prediction: Somewhat more transmissible, less severe, does not escape vaccines to any real extent, symptoms don’t last as long.
My belief is it gained transmissibility by sacrificing some ACE2 binding capability…but time will tell.
They should call this variant the Merkel since she blocked the IP waiver.
