4AM

I know, right?

Anyway, the “4AM” thing I think throws a lot of Americans because we have weird laws and such about when bars and clubs close. In most countries, you take a nap after work then hit the bars/clubs at midnight, and party until 4 or 5am. I found this out in Israel when I was trying to make plans with people and I said, “So, meet you at the bar at like 8PM?” Everyone laughed and one said, “Not 8PM. No one will be there. We all get there about midnight.”

Cultural differences….

Stressor

I think this is basically it. The pandemic made it obvious that a whole MBA layer or two was completely redundant and they know it, their bosses (don’t want to but do) know it, and it’s causing huge bureaucratic stress in corporations. It’s amusing to see.

Effed Up

Like a lot of the messaging, we totally fucked that up. What people heard: “The vaccines mean you never get sick EVER. You’re totally protected from Covid in all ways.”

The reality: vaccination reduces greatly the likelihood that if you catch Covid, you are hospitalized and/or die.

The vaccines are working just as designed. Yes, they do often grant sterilizing immunity. But that was not their purpose nor their goal. So liberals in particular see any infection post-vaccination as the vaccines “failing,” not realizing that a lot of them would be dead without that jab.

87 Tech

The difference decades of progress can make.

Only kind of. The machine on the left is a Colby Walkmac, which was a rare beast even back in the day and only sold in the thousands. And it wasn’t really a laptop; it was a luggable (though it kind of straddled the line because it was in fact battery powered).

Laptops from 1987 looked more like this:

1987 mass market laptops didn’t have so many ports as that, either. Usually 3-4, which is still far better than the one pitiful USB-C port many have now. (USB-C sucks.)

Censour

I told the libs crying for censorship it was going to bite them, and of course it did. You can’t post the word “pipe” on Tumblr anymore, if you want to see the post on iOS that is. No “pipe” and you can never see this photo of a lit boob:

I like the photo but it’s also to drive away the prudes. And it fit the theme of the post.

Winnie

I have no idea what the “Winnie the Pooh tweet” might be, but you can tell how effective the anti-public domain propaganda has been by the fact that Gen Z can’t even understand what the “public domain” is. That’s both scary and expected. Propaganda works, and works very well.
