Looks Up

I can see why Don’t Look Up got bad reviews, most often from standard-issue centrist “liberals.” The film really skewers them and their worldview rather brutally. It doesn’t spare others, either, but dang it sure does just eviscerate them.

It even makes indirect reference to the thing that got Andrew Cuomo canned was not that he killed thousands in nursing homes, but that he might’ve touched a staff member inappropriately.

By the way, I thought Don’t Look Up was great. Perfect satire.

Consp

I’ve been wondering about this; omicron doesn’t appear closely related to anything else. I’m about half-convinced now that omicron was either the above or some nation or org “harmlessly” testing its bioweapons research program opportunistically.

Pan Pol

Yeah. So much of it was and still is, “If the policy helps me, it’s good, and if it hurts someone else, too fucking bad!” That’s true of both sides — lockdown lifers and “no restrictions ever” types. No one — and I mean no one — was really thinking about the community aspect at all. It was the usual, “I got mine, suckers, fuck you!”

Vac Work

The vaccines the libs say aren’t working in fact are working just as designed. Imagine that. But sure, let’s kick the kids out of school and hide pointlessly inside. WHY THE FUCK NOT?

Wider Than

That’s because porn is mostly aimed at men, and men find many more female body types attractive than those typically found in fashion and women’s magazines. Those latter places are controlled/policed by women and gay men, and that’s why every woman there looks like a stick-thin human clotheshanger.

Most “beauty standards” blamed on cis men are enforced by women/gay men on other women. Straight men have comparatively little to do with it, nor any concern about it.

Cloaks

Realized today that I’ve seen so much in the IT world that I can help junior staff resolve helpdesk tickets with only a few words of their description, without ever having logged into the computer/server of the person having the issue, or really even thinking about it at all.

I’m right 95% of the time. That’s because most problems are the same problems over and over, even if they cloak themselves differently. A lot of expertise is being able to see the shape beneath the cloak.

The junior staff think I am sort of wizard because they work on issues for hours and I’m just like “Delete this obscure .dat file, that’ll fix it right up,” but it’s just that I’ve seen everything and remember most of it.
