Severity

People seem able to simultaneously believe that Omicron is just as severe as Delta and that there can be a very high number of asymptomatic and barely-symptomatic cases.

Here is an example.

I still think Omicron is about 50-70% less severe than Delta. All the evidence so far seems to back this up, save that poor article from the tweet.

Purposes

It’s nice that the vaccinations prevented infection, and often still do (even against Omicron). But they were unfortunately poorly sold to people like Brooke. The purpose of the vaccines was not to prevent you from getting infected. Their goal is to prevent you from going to be hospital, being intubated, and then dying.ย That’s what the vaccines are for and that’s how they should have been discussed for the most part except among specialists.

But it’s too late now. That feline is out of its sack and ambulating around the premises at will.

Oten

But the libs believe dating someone from another culture or ethnic group is racism and also sex trafficking now, so that’s right out. Is friendship now also verboten?

Big Time

As with many movies from the 1980s, Big could not be made today. It’d be considered too offensive by the wokesters and be canned even if it came up for development. During the 1980s, the zeitgeist was emphasizing our similarities and all about trying to bring people together.

That’s now transitioned to highlighting our differences, and making sure we dis-align along those axes. I have to say that what we were attempting during the 1980s was far better.

Panned Out

Seems likely to me too. Omicron appears mild but very transmissible. Most everyone is likely to get it, most probably asymptomatic if vaccinated.

In a way, with Omicron we got lucky. It didn’t necessarily have to be milder than previous variants though it’s becoming increasingly clear that it in fact is.

It’s Super

Indeed, this is how to lose most people with your ascetic horseshit:

Well-stocked supermarkets with reasonably-priced food are such a net win for civilization. That anyone even has to say this is just…I don’t even have words for it.

Burden Sum

Gen Z Is Done With the Pandemic. Though the specter of a new variant hangs over the holidays, young people have no plans to lock themselves down again.

And good for them. They should be rebelling. We’ve put an enormous, incalculable burden on those 5-25 to protect — mostly — obese people over 70. This is not the way it should’ve been. We’ve isolated young people from their friends, prevented them from having extremely important formative and socializing experiences and then had the temerity to call them “selfish” for not wanting to be stuck at home for years at a time.

I’d be defying all that, too. I’d be in open revolution.
