Weird the dichotomy on Twitter. People like Ian Welsh believe Omicron is the most severest disease EVAR since Ebola mated with the Black Plague and produced Ebola II: The Revenge!

And then there’s the saner people who look at what Omicron is actually doing and realize it’s much milder and pretty much is going to be the end of the pandemic. (Thanks, anonymous biohacker! That you, Mia?)

No Go Long

No. Omicron will not have nearly the Long Covid rates as Delta and earlier variants. I’d guess about 90% fewer.

Even “Long Covid” will turn out to be “Medium Covid” for most cases. The vast majority of people will recover fully in a year or two, as is the case with “Long Flu.” I think “Long Covid” is real, but not nearly as bad as folks want it to be.

Trans ideology as practiced is deeply conservative, and also authoritarian. For instance, it’s highly supportive of a strict gender binary and that “born this way” is meaningful. Hadn’t realized that before.

Lab Leak 2.0.

I don’t think omicron was a lab leak. That implies an accident; I suspect omicron was deliberately engineered and then released. Someone wanted to end the pandemic, and did it. The more I read about it, the more this seems to be the case.

Omicron is just very odd in a way that shouldn’t be even if evolved in an immunocompromised person.

Panicdemic

It’s interesting the split of the Covid panickers versus the Covid realists. Not much has changed, really, but Omicron has made the Covid panic pack really ramp it up.

Covid realists: the vaccines work. It’s impossible to keep shutting society and borders down, mostly for the benefit of the deliberately unvaxxed. The risk to children is minimal and we should try to operate our civilzation as normally as possible. The virus isn’t going anywhere.

Covid panickers: omicron is super-ebola-measles and will kill all the kids, resurrect them all, and kill them again! We should lock down so hard that fossilization starts while we’re still alive. Anyone who doesn’t agree has killed 900 trillion grammas and children.
