Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but online conferences for me are a major step down from the real thing

Prediction: long-term studies will show that being double-vaccinated reduces Long Covid to 0.5% of its base rate among those infected with Covid, and being triple-vaccinated (two jabs+booster) reduces it to 0.02% of the base rate.
Time will tell, but betcha I will be close.
i just found out croque monsieur just means โmister crunchy.โ i donโt know what i thought it meant but french people ordering a mr crunchy is just too fucking funny to me.
— molly conger (@socialistdogmom) February 6, 2022
Eh, not really at all. Very naรฏve literal translation. That’s how a non-French speaker might translate it. But that’s not how it feels in French. Anyway, it better translates as “crunchy man” or “crunchy gentleman.” But that’s still only half accurate because it really translates as a complete nominative designation for the sandwich it in fact is.
Anyway, in reality, without a hyphen “croque monsieur” is slang for “hot guy” in (most) French places and the sandwich would be (le) “croque-monsieur.” So there’s that.
Vaccine misinformation absolutely massacred rural Americans… https://t.co/2thRwySuCS

Self-created problem. Fuck ’em. Cold graves are sometimes deserved.
NPIs are done; they now exist only in the minds of the few hundred Twitter people who vent their anger by yelling at anyone who points out the fact. https://t.co/e87RQL1CmI

That’s exactly right. Lib fear porn ain’t gonna change that.
I wonder how long the libs are going to keep lying to the effect of that the vaccinated get Long Covid at any kind of noticeable rate?
Probably a long time.
Quite amazing how the Omicron wave surged and then turned around at almost the same time across so many countries โ almost as if it paid no attention to their divergent policies… pic.twitter.com/hE4u7xh2dP

Indeed. There are more factors to why the virus proliferates more readily in some places other than policy and practices — probably genetic in nature. But can’t talk about that.
Grades measure a student's capacity to work effectively within the system.
Anyone who doesn't think that that capacity is a strong predictor of life outcomes is going to have a rough go of it.

You only do not have to worry about grades when you are very exceptional in some other important way. Otherwise, you better be concerned with them.
(I did not have to worry about grades.)
"2022 is the year to get our groove back," @AmandaMarcotte writes. "The right has opened the door, by inviting us to debate whether sex should be fun and reading should be pleasurable. That's a fight that the left can win, easily." https://t.co/v9IRRqCaNq

The problem is that most of the left actually does not think sex should be fun or that reading should be pleasurable. So that won’t work at all as a strategy.
For the first time ever, did 3×15 on dips. My triceps are feelin’ it. But they are also getting strong and looking nice. Dips are a great exercise and work quite a few muscles.
I respond by laughing my ass off and saying good riddance. https://t.co/gc3b2lutYM

Same. Good fucking riddance. Die choking, motherfucker.
Pre-covid, did we realize there are so many people amongst us who are so stupid and/or crazy that they would rather die than get a safe, effective vaccination against a deadly disease? I had a very low opinion of humans and I am shocked. Pollyannas must be despondent.

Between the anti-vaxxers and the liberal “eternal lockdown is the way to do it” fanatics, my evaluation of humanity was drastically downgraded as a result of the pandemic. It was already very low, but now an alien invasion would be welcomed.
Liberals believe that if we dream smaller — if we renounce space, discard technology and basic research — that we’ll be forced to concentrate on our immediate earthside problems. In fact, the opposite will occur. Dreaming small means that not only do you not achieve the goals you think will you achieve, but that you backslide and worsen your situation.
But the joy of taking things away is one too many people will not relinquish. And that fact is driving a lot of these discussions.

I know how to make a mortar with a few hundred meter range with $200 of parts and a few afternoons. Not sure it could sink a ship that big, but the incendiary version would certainly fuck it up right good.
My mortar tube would only last a few shots before it became unusable. But that’s enough.
