People believing that they can hold back a pandemic that spreads through the air is a religious feeling. Zero Covid is no different than Zoroastrianism or any other theology that doesn’t start with a “Z.”

No, I’m not advocating “let ‘er rip.” Sometimes, restrictions make sense. Sometimes, masking does. But like many dangerous fantasies, Zero Covid makes reasonable restrictions less likely as the howling Covid shriekers are seen as crazy, which they are, so any restrictions become associated with their lunacy.

We really need to find a way for the left to channel their latent religiosity into something useful.

Discourse

Gawd almighty the stuff I’ve seen, all the “brilliant” military strategists who couldn’t successfully battle a chipmunk to undisputed victory, and all the mooks who believe that because Europe cares what is happening to a country that is literally fucking part of Europe, this is proof of racism. And those who believe a “no fly zone” is like a sign you put up or something and the warplanes just obey it.

The discourse is busted.

Nukist

Ah. Hmm. Haha. Oh no, for so many reasons.

TF

Turns out it’s easy for someone who has gone full moron to post what’s fairly obvious Russian troll farm disinformation.

I’m sure that things like this are happening in Ukraine, to some extent. But I’m equally sure that the above is absolute fake BS. Doesn’t even seem vaguely real. Ian Welsh has become a slimy fucking worm.

Res Tricks

Yeah, almost all of the restriction removal == more Covid narrative seems to be more just random fluctuations combined with seasonal forces that restrictions had little do with either way.

The very strictest restrictions do seem to work. But otherwise, nah.

Abaddon

There were no names for what we saw leaping forth from the earth that day. Great flame-wreathed forms of ghouls and imps spewed from the ground as lava and pyroclastic slag pelted the trees and struck down those unlucky enough to be outside in that howling torrent of infernal denial of all that had been good. Many were possessed by those vile forms where they stood, their eyes glowing embers in the grey.

Some of us made it, though, battling our way through the steam as ponds and lakes became one with the sky, as the air itself singed flesh, as rivers of boiling blood gurgled through the buckling streets. It was a victory bought with much pain as we repulsed the hellborne hordes even as they still pullulated into our world. It felt like it would not ever end. But it did; we had summoned an archfiend greater than any even the demonic masses could command: capitalism.

They could not afford the rent anywhere.

ConBub

Especially two years in with very effective vaccines available, that is very damn odd indeed.

Apogee

China, Russia, and the inflation situation. A worrying update.

Transitory was always unlikely, as additonal shocks always were.

So, the background here is that we thought we had inflation basically contained.

Are you joking? This was never the case. Inflation was always going to sting. But now it’s going to be like a sea full of Portuguese man o’ war jellyfish. I always thought this was about the 50% case. And now here we is.

Somebody really should pay me for this shit. Fucknuggets.
