Note to historians: saying "World War II was all about empire" sounds clever but doesn't actually explain anything. It doesn't explain how the sides aligned, what claims they made, what soldiers went into it believing, and in the name of what millions of people were murdered.

Ascribing the complexity of WWII to “empire” is a way of getting out of thinking and really understanding what happened and why. It’s like when explaining why someone did something and saying, “Well, they’re just bad.” It doesn’t tell you anything at all.

This is the problem I have with a lot of liberal/left fantasizing about the world.

“If we did this, it’d be amazing!” Ok, sure, but was Zero Covid every likely? Even possible? No, not on a worldwide scale. So why spend so much useless time obsessing over it when we could’ve been doing actually useful things and torturing far fewer people?

SARS escaped Beijing lab twice.

Makes it all the funnier the libs screeching that, “Lab leaks never ever happen, that’s a crazy conspiracy theory from Trumpians!” Motherfuckers, lab leaks happen all the time. There’s probably one or two happening right now.

And that lab was moved from Beijing to Wuhan precisely because of lab leaks. Chinese leadership didn’t want it affecting Beijing if a bad one occurred (which it probably did, SARS2).

I think one of the reasons I don’t fall for phone scams is that I’m perfectly willing to tell legitimate authorities to fuck off, much less some scammer. I am equal opportunity when it comes to my propensity to tell people to fuck off.

Even with rising case numbers, I haven’t seen a Covid patient in the ER in weeks.

And unlike the unreliable case data for the community, ‘hospitalizations’ is a VERY reliable indicator.
