About the ending of the mask mandate for travel, people say, “What about Long Covid?”
I believe Long Covid is real, but it’s also clear that most of the studies of it are pretty shoddy and the “cognitive decline” studies I’ve seen all have huge data problems, the effects are very small (within realm of natural variation), or are not actually measuring anything.
Also, I think 90% of “Long Covid” is just other pandemic-related effects (isolation, trauma, etc.) and will amount to nothing. I expect Long Covid will present at about the rate of post-viral syndrome for other common infections — which is still a lot of people, to be fair. But it is not nearly the apocalypse predicted.
Also, for most people, “Long Covid” will actually be short or medium Covid, and they will be all better in a year or two. (Still, that sucks. But it is not being disabled for a lifetime.)
If I believed Long Covid was as severe and as common as portrayed I would do nearly anything to avoid it. But most of the panic around it, from what I can tell, is leftist rage that their preferred renovations of society were rejected.
