The Locksmith Paradox
As the locksmith improves at his craft, the customers become increasingly upset by the lower time input required to deliver a fixed output.
The results are the same, but the perception of value has changed.

This is very true in my field.
Some MBA: Why do we need this expensive IT staff? Let’s get rid of them, we never have any problems anyway.
Six months later, the same MBA: Why is everything down all the time and there are three Russian hackers in the network at all times? The hackers send more email from my account than I do!
I’ve seen that dance play out over and over again at various places.
