Paramore – Last Hope
What a performance. Hayley has just ridiculous stage presence and confidence.
Slack Jawรฉd
file under: design history things i think about all the time.
why was AIM so good, and why are Slack/Discord so bad? https://t.co/pjhEY2Fhoc
— Amy Hoy (@amyhoy) April 24, 2022
A few reasons. Slack and Discord are mostly made to be friendly to corporations, not to users. The priorities are different therefore. Another is that the entire society has gotten more authoritarian and developers have followed right along with this. Devs believe they know better than the users they are developing software for, so offer fewer — and worse — choices.
But yes, AIM and ICQ were far better than Slack or Discord. So superior it’s not even a contest. Slack is fucking terrible, designed by complete clowns.
Droning On
Calling all weapons makers: Pentagon seeks new ideas to arm Ukraine.
Many, many drones. Capable off-road vehicles like LAV-25s — anything that allows light armored “shoot and scoot” with things like Javelins, NLAWs, MANPADS, etc. Night vision equipment. Mortars and mortar training. (Mortars are very devastating and demoralizing in close engagements while being quite portable.)
Cemetery Hours
Last night I was
Visiting with the dead in dreams
I’m still unsure who
Was visiting who
I saw someone gone twenty years
As real as the sun on my face
Cemetery hours
Every stop closer
To your destination
That sun
That sun on my face
Felt as real in the dream
As the one in this world
This world; one among many
There’s no veil to pierce
(No veil)
Time being an illusion
We are here, where they are
We all are
Well Done
QAnon star Cirsten Weldon, who said only idiots get vaccinated,… and called for Dr. Fauci to be executed,… has died of Covid.https://t.co/MOsXsfVikL

LOL.
Looking Around
If anyone with a microphone or a soapbox is still trying to tell you nearly two months into a conflict wracked with Russian war crimes, Russian destruction, Russian terror, etc, that the onus is all on Ukraine and the West to "find peace," they are a braindead fucking cretin.
— War Takes (@War_Takes) April 21, 2022
Unfortunately, this country and world has a lot of braindead fucking cretins. (Looking at you, Ian Welsh.)
The M Problem
I feel this even within myself. I literally canโt communicate unless I can use my face, and unless I can see my interlocutorโs face. With a mask on I become small as I lose social legibility https://t.co/pOLo78cOH1
— Seasonal Clickfarm Worker (@ClickingSeason) April 23, 2022
But masks have no negative effects, blah, blah.
I’d expect kids who spent a large part of their childhood masked to be developmentally behind others 2-3 years, and prone to more violence and social issues of various kinds. But as with many things, time will tell.

It has always puzzled me why almost everyone thinks if something is not eternal, it is worthless. Some of my best experiences were transitory and evanescent, and I think they (and I) am better for that.
Who’s the “Dufus”
dufus is claiming that Russia's comparatively enormous militaryโallowed by Belarus to surround Ukraine and attack across a less defended borderโcoupled with transcendent materiel advantages and a massive fifth columnโwill be unable to overcome Ukrainian "grit". https://t.co/U9ABj2M2Lx

David’s tweet held up very well, didn’t it? Ha. At least he didn’t delete it as many would. To be fair I didn’t think the Russian military would be so terrible and unable to coordinate itself, either.
Risk Adjusted
Was just thinking at how bad humans are at assessing risk; so bad that people often do things that are dozens to hundreds of times as dangerous as the risk they are attempting to avoid. So odd.
