Russia says Moskva cruiser has sunk after reported Ukrainian missile strike.
Told ya that was not getting towed back to any port. Once a warship is abandoned and on fire, it’s done, it’s over, it’s finito. It’s sleepin’ with the fishes.

You know a war is going well when you lose a fleet's flagship while fighting a country without a navy

Ukraine has a navy, just not much of one. It has 6,500 personnel and a corvette and some patrol boats and such. The Russian Navy has about 150,000 people, by contrast. Quite a difference.
The Kremlin says that the Moskva cruiser has been fully evacuated as the result of a โfireโ on board.

This comes after Ukraine says they hit the ship with Neptune missiles

Good thread on the Moskva, the cruiser the Ukrainians hit with missiles earlier. Can’t believe the Ukrainians toasted that beast. (The Russians are lying and claiming they will “tow it to port.” That thing is under the waves now and it won’t be towed anywhere.)
I was an early mask adopter — & they make intuitive sense — but a growing body of evidence shows that mask mandates don't appear to make much difference at the community level. pic.twitter.com/wnfBUKcZuM

I suspect masking worked better against prior variants, but not so well against Omicron. At most a very marginal difference with 100% compliance. Otherwise, probably didn’t matter much.

I’m sure Ian Welsh is all over this. And by “all over this” I mean updating us with all the pro-Putin propaganda like this. His new pravda, if you will.

I see why people were Fonda her, back in the day. Although Redford and Fonda look like brother and sister in this photo, which puts a whole new spin on that film. Heh.
There's a small but growing cottage industry of pundits and think takers who are telling Democrats not just to ignore voters under 45, but to actively act against their interests. Hacks like David Shor, Matt Yglesias. The White House reads this shit and believes it

The Dems have just decided to shovel all wealth to Boomers and fuck anyone else. This will not go well for them.
Iโve been reading about Black English and found this fun illustration of the habitual โbeโ, which is a grammatical aspect that indicates regular behavior. The correct answer here is Cookie Monster, very unintuitively for most white English speakers. pic.twitter.com/qv1P2Ptgk0

I grew up in the rural South so totally normal for me.
Hint for Northern Libs: AAVE and the Southern dialect overlap a lot. No, we aren’t appropriating black culture, yes, that’s how we grew up talking, and yes, please shut the fuck up.
Even more incredibly, Kyiv had just one Neptune battery we know of. And SAVED IT and its handful of missiles until it got a shot at the biggest Russian ship in the region. Patience. Discipline. https://t.co/waERGZoxqx

Yeah, that’s pretty fucking amazing. The Ukrainian forces use their very limited resources astoundingly well.
The real question is not whether Ukraine deserves to be in NATO, but whether NATO deserves to have Ukraine… https://t.co/wJYbq0mbUQ

I find nothing to fault here.
I have observed already the Covidians turning against Zeynep now as she wants (and has always wanted) a rational pandemic response. When that was consonant with their desires they loved her, but now that she has adjusted her ideas on response and precautions in light of what is actually happening (as anyone rational should) they’ve started to push back hard.
The kooky Covidians and lockdown lifers realize now they’re not going to get their dream of everyone hiding inside for years, and they are very, very angry about this. Fuck ’em! Let’s live our lives and pay them little attention.
I’m going out to the desert on Friday to look at cool shit and kick it with some lizards. Not staying in the pod no matter how many lockdown lifers wish I would.
One of the best ways to counter false or misleading claims is solid data collection.
For example, look at the UK comparison for hospital admissions who test positive vs those actually in critical care with COVIDโblue bars. See how small it is now, in comparison and as a number. pic.twitter.com/kLelGsktZD
— zeynep tufekci (@zeynep) April 13, 2022
There’s a lot of Covidians panicking now, but for most the pandemic as such is over. Long Covid fears are way overblown and overinflated IMO, but time will tell on that.
Parts of the left have, over an astoundingly short period, become so unthinkingly committed to opposing free speech that big newspapers now continually publish evident nonsense.

No empathy at all.
I love watching these people rage because we're over a year into their "transitory blip" & it's not getting better, so instead of having some shame & integrity & admitting they airballed it, they keep doubling down. This is why nobody trusts experts anymore.
— jonstokes.(com|eth) (@jonst0kes) April 12, 2022
Almost no one ever admits they are wrong. The “transitory” mooks have been wrong for a long time now and will continue to be. It’s getting laughable at this point and it’s correct and good to make fun of them mercilessly.

Inflation about to get c-c-c-razy. You think it’s bad now; just wait. I wonder if this isn’t a deliberate strategy of China’s to weaken the American economy, with Covid only being used as a plausible pretext.
