A lot of “critics,” especially woke ones, are capable of only the most literal and unreflective takes on any work. It’s remarkable what I’ve seen written about films and books where the critic has totally and completely missed the point. In the woke left world and mind, portraying something at all is condoning it. This is why I think they are such big fans of censorship.
In past times they would’ve been Church Ladies. Now they are just boring prude blue state scoldy people.
