Exactly. Those two scenes are paired explicitly, though a lot of peple don’t know how to read movie language so they don’t understand that.
I absolutely love Kelly Macdonald in this scene. One of the best movie performances of all time. And even though she dies, she’s the only one in the entire film who manages to get the better of Anton. It’s not revealed in the movie, but I think the coin flip actually goes against him in the film but he kills Carla Jean anyway, thus violating his own principles in an attempt to refute her. But the invalidation of his perverse ideals has already occurred as his reliance on the coin is, as Carla Jean understand perfectly, just an excuse for his sadism to be unleashed.
There’s a reason I watched that scene about two dozen times. Such a great lead-up to it, amazing performances by both actors, and a perfect callback to the scene with Carson Wells and Anton.

Kat has a good point. I refuse to put “Black Lives Matter” or anything like that in anything work-related not because I don’t believe in it, but because the moment you do that you could find yourself on the other side of the issue next time and be fired because you refuse to put “Women’s Sports Should Be Illegal” or some shit like that in your email signature.
Just don’t do it. I work for a living (well, mainly for health care), not for scoring political points.
Those people nearly got the upper hand. There were plenty of people like this who believed restaurants, bars, nightclubs, air travel and even schools should’ve been halted and/or shuttered in perpetuity.
