Yeah, not sure what is going on with Biden but he’s making some tough decisions. Some of which might not be wise, but damn if they aren’t gutsy at least.

Foxglove

The first stanza of the 10,000 Maniac’s song “Stockton Gala Days” might be the most poetic six opening lines of any rock song ever written:

That summer fields grew high
With foxglove stalks and ivy
Wild apple blossoms everywhere
Emerald green like none I have seen
Apart from dreams that escape me
There was no girl as warm as you

That whole song feels like a fever dream — which it should, as it’s about childhood memories and nostalgia therefrom. Natalie Merchant et al. were certainly channeling Yeats very well when they wrote those lines. Great writing.

I suspect if Russia does use a nuke in Ukraine that NATO (really mostly the US) will use conventional forces to wipe the Russian army off the map there. Anyway, that’s what I’d do. Retaliating with nuclear weapons would mean the end of the world but breaking the nuclear taboo cannot be allowed to stand either.

No matter what clowns like Ian Welsh believe, the Russian army is not great and a war to destroy it on the ground in Ukraine would be over in 1-2 months. Note I do fucking not mean invading Russia, which would be an insane and foolish thing to do. All I mean is annihilating the Russian forces on the ground where they’ve invaded.

I give Russian nuke use in Ukraine about 5% odds, but if that does occur, a conventional NATO/US response an 80% chance of happening.

Let’s hope none of these things transpire. But the risk is high, too high.

Many Canadians Canโ€™t Afford Homes Despite Cooling Real Estate Market.

Canada has made tons of mistakes in the housing area (most of the same ones as the US), but not surprisingly it turns out that most people — some weird liberals aside — actually don’t want to live in tiny cramped pods right on top of their neighbors.

A Bank of Canada study released this year found that a preference among buyers for larger spaces increasingly now only available in suburbs has narrowed the housing price between city and suburban real estate in areas like Toronto.

Canada would be a great place to live if their housing market weren’t so absurd. And no, most people don’t want to be crammed into damn pods, no matter what you read on Twitter.
