Here’s the truth: If you can’t sell it, it’s worth nothing. If it can’t be priced then its value is just a fantasy. If it’s not marked to market then you’re just lying to yourself. The only truth of how much something is worth is how much cold hard cash someone will give you for it. Everything else is a dream.

Only human beings have innate value; assets do not.

I understand the rage and frustration of the Covidians. Despite their claims about Covid being suspect or plainly wrong, I also thought the pandemic was an augur of more change than actually occurred. We altered very little, really, and improved almost nothing. We let easy wins go: better air filtration and handling, mandated sick leave, childcare provisions, and the already-doomed (by Obama) hope of universal health care coverage.

Instead, we did just about nothing. I understand, then, why that leads to Covidians to make increasingly absurd claims (Long Covid will end civilization! The vaccines don’t really work!) about the pandemic and its aftereffects.

But wishing doesn’t make it true. Just as my wish that we’d done more had no effect. The fact is we did not and will not.

Who was really served by our covid policies? To me it was very clearly well off folks. Pick basically any measure of inequality and it has expanded.

Indeed. Pandemic policies were catered to the top 10% of society. Meanwhile, many of those same mooks were screaming about how you were “killing gramma” while at the very same time they were ordering from DoorDash and depending on low-wage in-person workers for all their needs.

I love my “impossible” workouts. They are so impossible that I do them nearly every damn day at 46 years old.
