Past Future Shock

The dawning of the quantum age.

It was only a few years ago that we were confidently assured quantum computing was “impossible.” And hilariously, that was after there were already working (but rudimentary!) quantum computers.

Some things are indeed impossible but others are “impossible.” But in general, people have a really bad idea of what that is. (Space travel is another example of the “impossible” rather than the actually impossible.)

Hating On

Hating On Fat People Just Makes Them Fatter.

This is true, but the problem I have with this and all similar such studies is that the Fat Acceptance/Celebration movement classifies “discrimination” and “shaming” as just about anything, including mentioning at all that weighing 400 pounds and eating every donut in the office before anyone else gets to them is perhaps not the healthiest option available.

I don’t believe we should just accept everyone is now the size of a Mack truck. How does that help anyone?

Fitting

Growing up a misfit in rural North Florida caused me to have plenty of maladaptive and antisocial tendencies.

I still don’t believe that’s an excuse for me to be a jerk and an asshole to others. Entirely too many people allow their trauma to be used as an excuse for why they should be permitted to abuse and bully anyone they dislike. Many — perhaps most — of these people are on the left.

Growing up rough sucks. I didn’t enjoy getting out of bed in the morning every day to go to a place where I knew I was gonna get my ass kicked, only to come home to a father who told me I wasn’t manly enough. (How can an eight-year-old be “manly” anyway?) But that’s what happened and I still don’t let it be an excuse to be a trash human now.

A whole hell of a lot of you do, though.
