BS Belief

Guess this has become a common belief now even though it’s scientifically baseless and frankly ridiculous:

Of my younger friends, the youngest one (in her mid-20s) is more mature and sensible than 95% of the people I grew up with who were in their 30s, 40s and 50s in North Florida.

People are individuals. Strangely enough, right?

Ranchers

Something I’ve noticed in obese people is that they often order a fairly normal meal but then do things like ask for four cups of ranch dressing to accompany it and slather it on everything. What is up with that?

Is there some taste bud or neural-level malfunction going on there regarding the taste of food? Someone should investigate that as it might be a clue to something.

To me, it looks disgusting but people do things for a reason…so it’s worth checking out.

Compro

To many people in our world there is no such things as “tradeoffs” and “good enough for now.” Or even just “good enough.” Like the absolutely moronic pseudo-debate about electric vehicles, to these goofuses if something isn’t perfect it’s worthless — even if it would bring substantial improvements.

It’s just a way of bolstering the status quo, in most instances. Of course that’s not how these “impossiblists” see it because they are drowning in propaganda. To them it just sounds like being sensible which is of course how propaganda is most-effectively presented.

More Oil

Angie, don’t be sane, logical and actually look at the facts now. It’s unbecoming.

According to some clown I saw somewhere the other day, EVs can’t work in cities. Also more oil company propaganda.

Not Much Hope

Lan del Ray is a pale and soulless imitation of Hope Sandoval. If she were a good imitation, I might like her music. But she does’t even aspire to mediocrity.

But why would you try to imitate Hope Sandoval? It cannot be done. Failure is the only option — and one that Lana achieves quite readily.

Essayed

This is true. I can spew out an essay on anything at any time with no reference materials. It’s not even hard. Conversely, most people in tech are terrified of writing and very, very bad at it.

KIA

The Ukrainian military claims to have killed more than 121,000 Russian troops in Ukraine. I suspect this is roughly accurate.

At this rate, assuming the conflict goes for another three years (my guess), roughly half a million Russians will die there in a pointless war.

Jesus Christ.

Not Just Covid

What I’ve seen is that no amount of evidence changes anyone’s mind about anything. It’s very damn weird.

Very Thing

This will always be true of AI. If we ever have fully human-level AI, the goalposts will move to “doesn’t need to breathe, therefore not intelligent.” Shit, half of sf about AI is about this very thing.
