Wonder if

Covid doomer types are just content to lie in ridiculous ways about it to attempt to have forever masking implemented, etc.

I wonder if they know this kinda shit actually hurts them, not helps their quest to bend society to their perverse desires? Since it’s more religious than practical in nature what they are attempting the answer is “probably not.”

The Last

No matter what fucking idiot Ian Welsh thinks, the Ukrainians will never give up after events like this. They’ll fight to the last. It’s always been that way.

Stay

Degrowthers can go all the way to hell. Then stay there.

ReplAIced

I think that’s a short story already. I have read that somewhere, in some sf anthology. It’s too generic to search for easily but I’m pretty sure it was something I read 5-7 years ago.

Harm Ham

If you’re irreparably harmed by seeing some words or looking at a photo, then you should probably be up in a mental institution until you get better.

Not Perm

My bf admitted heโ€™s no longer attracted to me because of my weight.

I know this is not permitted for men anymore*, but I sympathize with the dude. I’m not attracted to obese women in the least, and am usually not attracted to even overweight ones. This is a very strong preference in me, and I don’t think I could alter it if I wanted to (I very much do not).

Talking about someone’s weight is supposed to be verboten these days but attraction is important in a relationship — and not just intellectual attraction, but physical as well. Fuck not talking about it, therefore. It should be a factor. You don’t just get up to 188 pounds by magic. It doesn’t happen overnight.

When I wasn’t as attractive and fit as I am now, I was more tolerant of being out of shape in romantic partners. But I hold myself to a high standard and quite honestly, would expect the same of any actual or prospective partner (friends, I don’t give a crap). If that’s wrong I do not care to be right. Not at all.

*Despite the fact that women reject guys for height reasons all the time — something far, far less changeable than weight.

Past Future Shock

The dawning of the quantum age.

It was only a few years ago that we were confidently assured quantum computing was “impossible.” And hilariously, that was after there were already working (but rudimentary!) quantum computers.

Some things are indeed impossible but others are “impossible.” But in general, people have a really bad idea of what that is. (Space travel is another example of the “impossible” rather than the actually impossible.)

Hating On

Hating On Fat People Just Makes Them Fatter.

This is true, but the problem I have with this and all similar such studies is that the Fat Acceptance/Celebration movement classifies “discrimination” and “shaming” as just about anything, including mentioning at all that weighing 400 pounds and eating every donut in the office before anyone else gets to them is perhaps not the healthiest option available.

I don’t believe we should just accept everyone is now the size of a Mack truck. How does that help anyone?
