Self Reinf

Wall Street rides to the rescue as 11 banks pledge $30 billion to First Republic Bank.

It’s more like Wall Street shoots a bunch of people, rides their horse behind a hill and changes into a nurse outfit then rides back out again to the “rescue” of a problem and crisis they caused.

Why do people fall for this shit? The propaganda pipeline is so well-developed now. This is an example of a type of propaganda that I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. That is, it’s the pernicious variety so ingrained that it no longer has to be promulgated. No, this propaganda lives right inside people’s minds already — so when another Wall Street failure occurs they automatically pen articles exonerating the actual guilty parties and painting them as the innocent white knights, ever blameless, riding to the rescue.

How the heck do your purge that from the body politic? It’s in too deep.

In Fact Laughing

If the MAGA clowns ever start anything, most of them will be dead shortly thereafter. There’s no chance much of the military will go to their side, so it’ll just be them driving around in F-250s with AR-15s being utterly obliterated by drones, A-10s and F-22s. It’ll be laughable and I will in fact be laughing.

Their little “Civil War” will last a month at most, and 100,000+ of them will be killed before they give it up.

Hell, 10,000 MAGA goofuses with AR-15s could probably not even defeat a modern US infantry company (100 soldiers or so), much less anything else.

Well Of Course

The return to the office could be the real reason for the slump in productivity. Hereโ€™s the data to prove it.

Well of course. Being surrounded by yammering pricks in a hog farm-like “open office” Abaddon does not lead to productivity. This is fucking obvious to everyone but clown college MBAs.

If quiet quitting and the resultant drop in productivity stemmed from remote work, we should see a drop in productivity right from the start of the pandemic, when office workers switched to remote work. Then, when offices opened back up, especially after the Omicron wave at the end of 2021, we should see productivity going up as workers went back to the office from early 2022 onward.

Just from my own observations, I’m about 1.5x as productive at home on average. This is mainly due to lack of interruptions and no commute. Commutes really sap one before arriving at the office. Yes, even non-car ones. Also, in a typical office, I’m interrupted once every 8-10 minutes so rarely get anything that requires concentration done. In fact, in many jobs I’ve sat in the office and done nearly nothing then gone home where it’s quiet and completed my real work.

Don’t have to do that anymore.

Word To Ya Motha

I tried that Wordle thing. Is this how you’re supposed to do it?

Heh.

(For some reason, their widget doesn’t display correctly actually published on my blog so I had to take a screenshot of it. But I assure you it’s real. I’m just good.)

Redder

We’ll be out of this red state in less than 30 days. I love many things about Florida but the way it has turned means I can no longer live here. All of Florida is becoming more like where I grew up in rural North Florida and that’s no kind of way to be.

No more red or reddening states for us.

Go Well

Ha. Yeah. That’s why it’s funny when women are like, “Just treat me like you’d treat other men.”

Oh trust me, you really really really don’t want that. You might think you do but you surely do not. Most women are not accustomed to being treated that way and it would not go well. Most men are actually far more moderate and less intense around women than they are around other men. And no, I’m not even talking about the stereotypical “locker room talk” here at all.

I know women mean, “Don’t treat me like an object” or something similar when they demand to be treated like a man, but even that fails as men objectify other men as a matter of course as well.

I think it’s fine to just say “Be less shitty.” It’s clearer and gets the point across.

REUconsider

I thought the US had come up with some surveillance nightmares. But that is beyond the most Orwellian of Orwellian nightmares there.

More Comp

The below is true; my field is vastly more complex than it was even 10 years ago. Back then, you could do ok in with a 110 IQ. Now good luck getting by with anything less than 130+.

And most of the complexity is completely pointless. It’s just stotting by those attempting to pseudo-professionalize IT and make it more exclusionary.

That is exactly the problem. Every tool now assumes you are a professional, full-time developer. This is a terrible assumption and harms the whole industry and ecosystem. This also makes security worse and harder to achieve effectively. Arguably, it helps large orgs (or at least harms them less) with a 5,000-person IT department but really hurts everyone else.

I’m good but I simply do not have time to learn 30 different development frameworks, APIs and IDEs to make something work. It’s just impossible. That you’re expected to write 100+ line PowerShell scripts and generate 500+ line JSON files for things that just used to be a setting somewhere is fucking insane. And that’s not even the worst of it.

And without exception, all of this is poorly-documented, flaky, and with nearly-useless error messages. The IT world is so much worse now than it was even a decade ago. And worsening all the time at an increasing rate.
