You can get away with this absurd level of improvisation when everyone in your band is insanely talented. Otherwise it just falls apart. Prince had more panache than just about anyone and such a great guitar style; he played his piece kinda like a violin.

I got no ambition to be completely safe; nah, I wanna be completely dangerous.
Fane
I found my new calling… I want to destroy every automated support line in existence.
I can no longer remember which support line it was (maybe HP?) but years ago when I had to call it frequently, I figured out that if you used enough profanity at the otherwise-arduously-long prompts and hold queue, the cursing would short-circuit all that and quickly get you to a real person who could assist you.
So when I called I would robotically intone, “Fuck…shit…bitch…fuck…shit…bitch” until it transferred me to a human. One time my boss walked by and heard me doing this and stopped to watch. She was very chill and asked me after, “What was that about?” I said I found out that profanity caused a quick transfer to an actual rep and otherwise I’d be waiting perhaps hours.
So the rest of my team started doing the “Fuck…shit…bitch” litany when they called the support line. (Pretty sure it was HP, as we had tons of HP servers so were calling often. This was in 2002 or so.)
Placed Out
Who here is moving because of being priced out of area?
I remember when Central Florida and nearly all of Florida used to be super cheap; no longer. I guess nearly nowhere is now, but even 5-6 years ago a decent place in Central Florida was half or less the rent of a place in, for instance, Atlanta or Chicago or Boston.
Those days are I guess gone forever.
Fast Neg
Why has fast food gotten insanely pricey?
I’ve been wondering the same. The quality of fast food is actually far worse now post-pandemic, but the price delta between fast food and a far higher-quality restaurant meal is much diminished compared to what it was four years ago. Sometimes for lunch (where restaurants have lunch prices and portions), fast food is actually more expensive.
This all makes no sense and I have no insight into it at all. But I do miss in the army where I could get an ok meal (Whopper value meal, to be specific) at Burger King for $2.99 — that’d be $5.54 in today’s money. Now the price is higher and the quality is much, much worse.
Here’s proof; this ad is from 1995 but this price held until the early 2000s — in fact, often just the Whopper itself was only $0.99, which was a frequent sale price. Sometimes I’d buy two Whoppers for that amount and call it good. Anyway, the ad:
