When you’re forced to use a smartphone for a while and then switch back to a PC, you can see why so many are so eager to take PCs away from us: they are 1,000x more capable than a smartphone and allow you to think larger thoughts, not just click and drool. Steve Jobs was correct in that computers could be “bicycles of the mind.”

When you first start out on help desk, you believe users must have some sort of thought process or logic, some way they navigate their days and their lives beyond just raw first-order sensations and childish wishes. Then after about six months of pain and witnessing the absolute nadir of humanity, you realize that, no, in fact they do not. You come to understand that this is typical user thought process and behavior, with rare exception:
