U.S. concerned about Ukraine strikes on Russian nuclear early-warning radar stations. Washington conveyed to Kyiv that attacks on Russian early-warning systems could be destabilizing.

Oh, as destabilizing as invading, unprovoked, a neighboring nation and killing thousands of its people? Destabilizing like that? That is cringeworthy to read.

Also, it looks like France is going to send some troops to Ukraine. Good. Let the Ian Welsh fucking idiots cry about it.

Passivity

Men of Reddit, what is a dating piece of advice youโ€™d give women?

Most of the top comments are the same thing I was going to say: Women are so absurdly, extremely, ridiculously passive in dating and then wonder why they get bad results. It’s because only the most brash, “confident” (really, don’t care what women think or feel, sociopathic-leaning) guys are going to be the ones interacting with you. And no one else because you’ve told good men not to flirt, interact, bother women, and to always take “no” as “no.”

So, women, this is an equilibrium you’ve created. And you can change it! You actually 95% control the dating market so in fact, only you can change it.

Just like anywhere else if you want better results, you have to fucking do something. But I know you won’t.

Prudes and Prunes

We have. Gen Z and younger millennials view any form of in-person flirting as completely taboo and verboten. It’s such an oddball thing. They are so afraid of the world. Just terrified. Smartphones and social media are largely responsible. Haidt-haters can put that in their fucking useless Excel spreadsheets and smoke it.

When you view the world through the lens of an algorithm or an Excel spreadsheet, you understand little.

We should be spending 2-3x more on defense than we do now; the world is getting more dangerous and we can’t just go isolationist. It’s not realistic and it wouldn’t work. The world is just not that way anymore. The need to heavily ramp up defense is becoming urgent and hardly anyone sees it.

But they will. The hard way, as usual.

Dura Pater

People are surprised when I tell them what I am gonna do and then I do it. Why are they surprised? I just told them how it was. Like anyone could stop me.

Having no capability for embarrassment and since I’ve already endured worse than most, can’t nobody touch me. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.

Glaze of Malaise

Inflation as the average person actually experiences it (not the BS government numbers) the last few years has been 20-30% per year. This is why there is so much malaise and so many people who think the economy is doing poorly. For them, it absolutely is.

Summer’s Glau

Such a great, insanely well-written show. What I like about it in particular (and this scene) is that even though everyone knows what “she” is, her looking like that still allows her to partake of the halo effect of young female beauty, but also be constrained by it as well in certain situations — that is, even being a “very scary robot” still doesn’t allow her unrestrained freedom.

Again, so well-written — e.g. the part where she turns his phrase around on him and says, “He’s not a guy, he’s a ‘scary robot.'” It helps to know the backstory of the show and Cameron’s (the female terminator) as well, but it’s clear that she is resentful of his by-proxy characterization of her. That’s why she turns his phrase back around on him like that. But it’s all done with great subtlety. Each line matters, and each one reveals something more to the viewer without either character explaining anything in the emotional sense directly. Some shows would spend half an hour belaboring what the writers managed to do there in just a couple of taut minutes. And that is pretty impressive.

That show is just full of scenes I wish I could’ve written. (Sorry for the crap resolution.)
