Kid Me Not
Hell, we earn around 4x that much and it’d be a stretch including cost for college to have a kid. Don’t get me wrong, we could do it! We earn a lot. This isn’t some sob story. But it would mean we’d have to retire later or not at all, and have far less money for emergencies and the like. Child care in this area is something like $2,000 a month.
I truly do not know how people do it. Makes me glad neither of us have ever wanted kids.

People like to say we can’t tech our way out of climate change. However, we both can do so and must do so. There is no other plausible path.
Settling
When I was younger, I didn’t realize I was mildly unsettling to be around and that this was because I was simultaneously very relaxed while at the same time being, for lack of a better term, coiled. Most people have never been around a person who is both chill and ready to pounce.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to conceal the hypervigilance aspect of my personality but in reality it’s always there and always will be. I don’t mind it. My “relaxed” is not like other people’s “relaxed” and that’s ok.
But I will never wear headphones in public.

Oh, that is absolutely 100% true. With overseas folks (especially India) it’s around 30% apparitional. I’ve worked with these “ghosts” in person so I do have direct experience. They do nothing and produce nothing and then move on to the next job or contract in 3-9 months.
