It’s odd being in the last generation of sysadmins who deeply from the bottom up understand how computers function. My profession is dying out and in my lifetime will be extinct. What’s replacing me is “infrastructure as code” people who have no clue at all how anything works and furthermore, do not care.
Also, even programmers mostly have no idea how a computer works and that is being taught less and less frequently in compsci courses.
Weird to see in both cases but such is life I guess.
Tower Challenge

Well of course. The whole PE strategy is to place strategic buys to raise comps and thus cause prices to rise in the entire area.
This is why the economists who say things like, “The investors don’t buy that many houses so they can have no effect on prices!” are so very, very wrong. I mean, prices are set on the margin and that is even more true of house prices. That’s basic economics there so you know there must be some other agenda going on there to even make such an unbaked claim.
If you gave me $20 million dollars, I could cause prices to rise 20-30% in a chosen neighborhood and stay elevated for years — more than enough to recoup that money.
Why is that not obvious to everyone else? This is just how you do it if you’re in that business.

Oh, absolutely, this is the case. The media makes vastly more money during close national elections. If Trump and Harris were held to the same standards, Trump would be 5-7% down and it wouldn’t even be a contest. But the absolutely insane things Trump says don’t get reported or get buried, while relatively innocuous actions or statements of Harris get distorted and reported on incessantly. This is to make the election be a contest not a landslide for Harris.
And to be clear: this would happen if Harris were the one doing insane things and Trump were the normal one. The media needs the election to be close to make that cheddar. That’s what’s going on.

The problem is that any scientists who would claim this are terribly afraid of having their funding cut and/or being harassed by the CCP, so they either say nothing or just spout nonsense to avoid the loss of cash and the hassle.
Lorde – Tennis Court
Just such a great video. I watch it every few months. What looks easy here is actually hard. The shoot itself takes only a few hundred dollars worth of equipment if you rent it but coaxing your subject into being so static yet interesting for more than three minutes is an art. And that’s not easy at all.
I was hoping the uniqueness and pure force of Lorde’s first album was presaging a cultural shift. Alas, it did not. And we haven’t had one of those in a long time, no matter what some clowns claim. But I hope we do still one day.
